Mary Beth Rucker, VNA Mark Thomsen, architect Brad Latham Carl Stinson, 293 Haverhill St. Call to order: 7:30 Clay read the notice "This is to serve notice the Reading Historical Commission, under authority and requirements of Section 5.13 Demolition of Structures of Potential Historical Significance of the General By-laws for the Town of Reading, Massachusetts, shall hold a public hearing on the demolition of the potentially significant structure, as defined in Section 5.13.2.4 of the General By-Law, at 320 Haverhill St.(Assessor;s Map, Lot). Under the requirements of Section 5.13.3.3, a positive initial determination was made as to significance by the Historic Commission on January 3, 2003". The public hearing is being held tonight. Introductions were made. Mark Thomsen brought out his plans and began to explain what will be removed and what will stay. Everyone had a packet with pictures and plans. The issue is the removal of the modern garage with the loss of a small connecting portion (a "cricket"), sloped on one side, that joined the garage to the 1850 portion of the house. The new addition will also have a cricket that will be sloped on both sides. Questions from the commission members were fielded by Mr. Thomsen and Mr. Banow. The commission also discussed the plans for the interior doors. Then Brad Latham brought out the Preservation Restriction Agreement. A few changes were made. Clay expressed the wish that the commision have access to document the construction as he opens things up. Barnow agreed. Mr. Taylor also agreed to let the commission consult on changes to interior fetures. Keith Taylor the project manager was hopeful that the commission could vote this evening and get the decision to the building inspector tomorrow. Virginia moved that we close the hearing and the commission voted in the affirmative at 8:38. Approved. 4-0-0 The commission discussed the issue. Clay made a motion that the commission vote to determine that the demolition of a portion of the 1850 addition to the older house at 320 Haverhill St. in conjunction with and now attached to a modern garage attached to the the 1850 addition, would not be detrimental to the historical or architectural heritage or resources of the town, per bylaw procedure 5.13.3.5; and the demolition of the modern garage would not be detrimental to the town; with this plan as outlined by applicant in a memorandum to the commission from TRO dated Jan. 23, 2003. Voted in the affirmative 4-0-0 Virginia moved that Clay accept the Preservation Restriction agreement on behalf of the commission tomorrow. Approved. 4-0-0 Virginia presented the blue prints of 767 Main St. made at Charette. The commission will move ahead to put the house on the inventory. 717 Pearl St. barn The owner may still go before the ZBA. Adjourne 5 Approved as amended Feb. 4, 2003.
