"This is to serve notice the Reading Historical Commission, under authority and

Significance of the General By-laws for the Town of Reading, Massachusetts, shall hold
a public hearing on the demolition of the potentially significant structure, as defined in
Section 5.13.2.4 of the General By-Law, at 320 Haverhill St.(Assessor;s Map, Lot). Under
the requirements of Section 5.13.3.3, a positive initial determination was made as to
significance by the Historic Commission on January 3, 2003". The public hearing is
being held tonight. Introductions were made.
Mark Thomsen brought out his plans and began to explain what will be removed and
what will stay. Everyone had a packet with pictures and plans. The issue is the
removal of the modern garage with the loss of a small connecting portion (a "cricket"),
sloped on one side, that joined the garage to the 1850 portion of the house. The new
addition will also have a cricket that will be sloped on both sides. Questions from the
commission members were fielded by Mr. Thomsen and Mr. Banow.
The commission also discussed the plans for the interior doors. Then Brad Latham
brought out the Preservation Restriction Agreement. A few changes were made. Clay
expressed the wish that the commision have access to document the construction as he
opens things up. Barnow agreed. Mr. Taylor also agreed to let the commission consult
on changes to interior fetures. Keith Taylor the project manager was hopeful that the
commission could vote this evening and get the decision to the building inspector
tomorrow.
Virginia moved that we close the hearing and the commission voted in the affirmative

The commission discussed the issue.
Clay made a motion that the commission vote to determine that the demolition of a
portion of the 1850 addition to the older house at 320 Haverhill St. in conjunction with
and now attached to a modern garage attached to the the 1850 addition, would not be
detrimental to the historical or architectural heritage or resources of the town, per
bylaw procedure 5.13.3.5; and the demolition of the modern garage would not be
detrimental to the town; with this plan as outlined by applicant in a memorandum to
the commission from TRO dated Jan. 23, 2003. Voted in the affirmative 4-0-0
