The roof of the original house will not change. They will use the same style of windows and siding that are on the original house. It will be a one-story addition with a gable end. They are going to try to use the existing foundation, providing the Building Inspector approves it. There is concern of what supports the connecting wall of the original house. Virginia Adams If the Historical Commission and the Homeowners can agree on a work agreement, the Commission could then release the demolition delay. Dean Whitehouse has no plans to use large equipment for the demolition. This includes the barn demolition. Their neighbor would like to have the demolition proceed. The neighbor sent a letter to the town, describing the existing additions as an eyesore. Virginia read the draft of the work agreement. Dean will not have architectural drawings ready until the summer. They want to start the demolition so that they can either have the foundation approved for use or rebuilt. Wilbar Hoxie - Concerned about how the extensions are attached to the original house. He would also like to know how the house would be protected from the weather (especially wind). Dean - The Bylaw does not require architectural drawings. They have no intention of destroying the original house. He feels that they are acting in good faith, but the Historical Commission is not. Roberta Sullivan would be willing to release the delay provided the work agreement is signed. Al Wilkinson (neighbor) - Believes that it is unsafe and that it stinks from animals. Virginia interrupted Mr. Wilkinson, and explained that his speech would have been appropriate at the public hearing for the demolition delay, but, the hearing is now closed. The Commission and the Applicants arranged for another meeting. The Applicants left the meeting. RHC Minutes 06132003.doc Page 1 of 1 Clay Jones enters the meeting. A demolition application was received for a 1959 addition on the house at 483 Franklin Street. The owners of the property are Clay and Gladys Jones. Clay made a statement that he is not acting as either the Chairperson or a member of the Reading Historical Commission. He brought pictures of the 1959 porch for the Commission to view. A larger porch, a hallway, a barn, similar to one in an old photograph, and a jog, connecting the house to the new barn, are to be added. Wilbar Hoxie Moved in a positive determination that the structure at 483 Franklin Street, Reading, MA is a potentially significant structure, is listed on the Town inventory of historically or architecturally significant structures, is listed on the National, Register of Historic Places, and is therefore subject to the demolition delay (per General Bylaw section 5.13.3.3). Roberta seconded the motion. Vote - 4-0-0 Roberta moved that the Commission hold the public hearing, for the demolition delay, on Tuesday July 2, 2003. Virginia seconded the motion. Vote - 4-0-0 Clay stated that the Commission does not need to send a letter to him about the hearing. Virginia stated that he has submitted all of the required information and documentation to the Commission. Site Visit - June 20, 2003 at 1:00 PM. Next Meeting - June 17, 2003. The First Congregational Church and the Antiquarian Society distributed the newly bound copies of the Town records Volume I and Volume 11 (1769 - 1820). Virginia read a thank you note from Louise Sandberg. Mark will contact Louise to get the yet to be submitted minutes from past - meetings.
