322 Haven Street
A demolition permit application for a barn in the rear of the property at 322 Haven Street was
received at the Town Hall on September 11, 2003. The property is on the inventory. The house
was built prior to 1875 (it is on the 1875 map) but the barn was built in1921.
Clay moved in a negative determination that the barn at 322 Haven Street, Reading, MA is not
subject to the demolition delay bylaw because it is not identified on the Town inventory of
historically or architecturally significant structures (per General Bylaw section 5.13.3.3). Virginia
seconded the motion. Vote - 5-0-0
Mark was concerned that it may set a precedent for tearing down other outbuildings.
10-12 Pierce Street - Pierce Organ Factor
Clay provided more information on why the factory is endangered.
Harold Strand (owner) gave the Commission an organ pipe. He would be a good source of
information on the factory.
Virginia and Marylin Fenollosa, from Preservation Massachusetts, viewed the buildings.
The Commission discussed how to inform the public about the situation.
Can the Commission and some historians get a tour of the factory?
Reading Depot:
A copy of a letter from Peter Hechenbleikner to the depot owners was reviewed by the
Commission. The letter urged the owner to get the public facilities completed.
The Commission would like to request a copy of the deed restrictions.
206 Woburn Street - Horace Wadlin House
The house just came up for sale. The Commission will try to arrange a tour of the house (possibly
Friday morning) with the realtor, Sumi Sinnatmaby.
The realtor is interested in obtaining a plaque and certificate for her house on Freemont Street.
Her house is on the 1854 map.
Miscellaneous:
Bill McLaughlin called to request if the Commission would present the "Moved Houses" show on
Monday October 13, 2003 at Cedar Glen.
