Minutes:
• 420 Franklin St. - The entire property sold for $625,000 and a Preservation Restriction on
the deed has been signed and recorded, but the Commission has not yet received a copy.
There is a drawing of a house that may be built on the new lot. The property has been
subdivided and the historic house at 420 Franklin is now on the market for $379,900. We
must still review the Memorandum of Understanding.
• 30-32 Elliot St - Roberta called the owner regarding the money promised and he did not
recall the agreement and stated that he would check with Brad. Things are being held up
with CPDC because of drainage issues. The six month delay has now passed. Kathy will
contact the owner about a tour of the property before it is demolished.
• 75 Pleasant St - Virginia and Clay met with the Reading Housing Authority (RHA) recently
regarding the plans for 4 units on an adjacent property. The RHA is working on a land swap
with the town. There is a funding gap and they are looking for additional capital with any
luck they will receive funds in the spring. The RHA may consider selling the house.
• Pierce Organ Property - Design Review Team (DRT) meeting to be held on the 2e at 2 pm.
The RHC will request that the facade to be kept with no artificial siding being used, and that
they maintain present fenestration. The current plan is for 10 units. RHC will request that
the owner get relief from low income requirement so owner can afford to renovate the
property. The RHC will send a letter to DRT and CPDC during site plan review. Virginia
and Kathy will put this letter together.
Community Preservation Act (CPA) Clayton Jones, our nominee, was appointed to the Ad
hoc CPA Committee.
• Boston Stove - This building appears to be ready for demolition. It seems too late to tour the
structure.
• Grant Programs - Kathy spoke of a letter from Michael Steinitz regarding a new grant
program for preservation projects. The group spoke of needs for grants to hire a group of
professionals to do a sweep of town to determine additional properties for the town
inventory. It maybe a good opportunity for West Street Historic District to get properties
inventories. We could consider combining efforts to get more properties inventoried. Pre
Application deadline is 15 Dec 2006. Susan, Virginia and Kathy will work on a letter to
Peter Hechenbieikner.
