A Reading Historical Commission Meeting Minutes TO" ~t MAS S. 12 June 2007 Meeting called to order at 7:30 pm in the Town H%t&r25CeAo* 22 Commission Members in attendance included: Virginia Adams, Member Mark Cardona Member Kathy Greenfield, Chairman Susan Patterson, Associate Member Sharlene Reynolds Santo, Secretary Karen Herrick, Associate Member Roberta Sullivan, Treasurer Minutes: • 32 Grove St - There was a Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) hearing last week about this property which was converted to a residence prior to the carriage house bylaw being enacted. In 1990 the property was divided, at which time a notation about not using the carriage house as a dwelling was added to the deed. In its April memo to the ZBA, the Commission raised 4 issues for the ZBA to consider in granting a Special Permit. The memo addressed grading issues which could be handled by removing the cement slab on the south side, repairing the beam on that same side, having the roof replaced, and possibly removing the vinyl siding at some point, if work is done in the future. The Commission was asked by the ZBA to include more details regarding the roof and siding in its final report. The ZBA also suggested including a condition in the Special Permit that a future owner would be required to go through the Commission prior to any alteration. Because the bylaw was written for a carriage house being converted into a house this situation is challenging to interpret. The Commission worked on the points to be addressed in a full report to the ZBA, as required under the bylaw. The group agreed on specifics to be included in the report which Kathy will compose and forward to the ZBA. • 457 Franklin St - Virginia received a call from the owner Ruth Ross. She wants to sell her house and is concerned about the 1-year demolition delay. Virginia will contact her about a tour to help the Commission understand the status of the property and the owner to understand the bylaw. • Roberta Sullivan moved to pay the Boston University Preservation Studies an initial payment of $500.00 for measured drawings and other documentation for 420 Franklin St., Reading. This money to be paid by the end of June 2007. Sharlene seconded the motion. Approved 5- 0. • Virginia Adams moved to retain the same slate of officers for the FY `08. Sharlene seconded the motion. Approved 5-0. Kathy Greenfield and Susan Patterson will continue to represent the West St Historic District. • Meeting adjourned at 9:15pm.
