Minutes:
• 124 Salem Street - This Inventory property is currently for sale. In an effort to determine the
age of the house, Virginia has arranged for the Commission to tour the house tomorrow night
(Wednesday, October 10) at 6:30. It is expected that Clay Jones will be able to attend and to
assist the Commission in its assessment.
• "Remember When" - On Thursday night, October 4, Virginia and Roberta presented a
slideshow entitled, "Remember When" at a Rotary Club dinner held for Senior Citizens. The
dinner was held at the RMHS cafeteria and attended by approximately 130 people. Virginia
and Roberta report that the presentation was "excellent" and "went over very well". RCTV
has offered to run this or any slideshows that the Commission has assembled. Someone
would just need to go to the studio to record the text to go along with the slideshow, and they
would run them periodically.
• Meeting with Town Planner - Kathy, Virginia and Susan met with Town Planner; Carol
Kowalski and discussed the following:
o Communitv outreach and education (Kathy has notes).
o Carol suggested that a notebook be available in the Planning Department that contains
a list of properties on the historic inventory, National Register of Historic Places
properties, a -copy of the demolition delay bylaw, Carriage House By-Law, list of
properties with Preservation Restrictions, West St. Historic District (WSHD) Bylaw
and properties lists, list of RHC and WSHDC members- All of this information is
available to them, but having all materials in one place may be very helpful. The goal
is to gather these materials in the next month.
o Carol also asked to have the Historical and Architectural Inventory available on the
web. A list of the resources on the town web site, but the RHC is unsure if our
Access data is easily convertible to the web. Carol is researching how other towns
have accomplished this and what the costs may be. There was also a strong desire to
increase awareness and priority of historic properties in the town.
o Updating the Historic Properties inventory. This is a long term goal to include
commercial properties. The RHC must determine some guideline for adding
properties.
o Development of an Historic Marker Program
