Board of Health Meeting
Minutes
May S, 2003
The meeting was called to order at 6:05 P.M. Reading Town Hall, Berger Room, 16
Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts, by James J. Nugent, Jr., Chairman, Colleen
Seferian, Vice Chair and Barbara Meade, secretary (excused) staff liaison Jane Fiore,
Health Services Administrator were present.
The minutes of the April 10, 2003 were accepted as read 2:0.0.
The Board received a letter of resignation from Jim Nugent. After 14 years of service to
the Town of the Board of Health. Jim will be making his home in New Hampshire. The
Board and the Administrator will miss his expertise and sense of humor. Congratulation
Jim and the best of luck on life's new adventures.
Next order of business:
• Tobacco program discussed. The state has a little more than one million dollars left in
the program where Reading stands with the project within the Andover Healthy
Communities remains unresolved.
• Landfill discussed. Pest management reports weekly. One neighbor reported to
Pesticide Bureau regarding actions of BOH and pest Management Company. All
information faxed to bureau including proposal and Safety Data sheets. No further
issue.
• Next order of business: Menomune clinic held May 2, 2003 45 students immunized
at Reading Memorial High School. Some difficulty with the high school setting up
appointments. Suggestions for next year program to offer information at a senior
parent night. And to insist on appointment 4 students at a time since the product
require 6-cc reconstitution with 10 minutes of use.
• Decision regarding Getty Gas Station and the sale of tobacco to minor was health
code. Getty will remove their tobacco product on May 5 through May 12. The
Tobacco program will handle the issues.
• Administrative report :
• Report on discussion with MASSPRO application for reimbursement of flu
and pneumonia immunizations. The Board was informed of the limited
finance of the state and therefore limited supply of the vaccine.
Housing issues discussed
Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jim Nugent at 7:25 seconded by Colleen
Seferian and voted 3:0:0.
