HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-05-13 Board of Health MinutesBoard of Health Meeting Minutes May 13, 2004 The meeting was called to order at 6:05 P.M. Reading Town Hall, Berger Room, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts, Chairman, Colleen Seferian. Member present Barbara Meade, and David Singer staff liaison Jane Fiore, Health Services Administrator. The minutes of the March 11, 2004 accepted as read. Minutes of April 10, 2004 tabled for correction. Next order of business: • Bio-terrorism coalition update. $130,000 spending plan completed for State Department of Public Health. Lap tops, cell phones, digital cameras, BT preparedness bag, nurse preparedness bag, training funds, staff salary and an agreement for 26 cents per population funds for each town. Readings portion $6,180. Our funds will be used in conjunction with the fire department grant to purchase a standby permanent generator for the senior center to turn the senior center into an emergency shelter if and when necessary. Training funds include emergency preparedness training in Denver for 3 members of coalition and weapons of mass destruction in Haverhill for all members to attend. • The well regulation discussed and voted 3:0:0 to change Section 8.2.2 and Section 8.3.2.1 Administrator will post and file with the Department of Environmental • Family and Friends Day sponsored by Lions Club discussed. The Board of Health will have no representation. Discussion regarding the possibility of Board member manning the table. Administrative Report: • Cholesterol clinics functioning with 10-12 clients per clinic/month cost raised to $10.00/test • Certificate of Excellence for Food Establishments reviewed there will be no Board signatures on certificates. Certificates will be used beginning July 2004. Mosquito control. DPW ready with pesticide licenses to drop Vectolex WSP in storm drains. Town Meeting transferred $1700 from free cash to BOH budget to cover cost of 2800 vectolex pouches. Town storm drain canvas with mosquito larvacide will begin at the end of June. • Camps and pool inspections and licensures beginning • Working with Callie Beckworth Girl scout working toward her Gold Award. Topic - health assessment of town. • Sealer of Weights and Measures will be completing a survey of businesses using item scanning. • Home depot to open August. They take 6-8 week to rack and stock store. This inspection involves Sealer and Health Inspector as well as building inspector. • Jordan's Furniture will being leasing space to Richardson Ice Cream. • Phase two will have Starbuck Coffee, Baer Sandwich shop, Macaroni Grill, Linen shop, Bank and stationary store all but bank require inspections and licensing from the health division. • Chili's will open in the fall • Train Stop Coffee Shop at the depot is looking to open in the summer. • Caf6 606 is changing hands and will include breakfast. • 10 Haven Street preparing for June demolition.
