Board of Health Meeting
Minutes
June 10, 2004
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 P.M. Reading Town Hall, Berger Room, 16
Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts, Chairman, Colleen Seferian. Members present
Barbara Meade, and David Singer staff liaison Jane Fiore, Health Services Administrator.
The minutes of the April 8, 2004 accepted as amended. Minutes of May 13, 2004
accepted as read.

Next order of business:
• Bio-terrorism coalition update. $130,000 spending plan completed for State
Department of Public Health.
• 10 Haven Street Project ( Johnson's Hardware) update with board discussion.
• Administrative Report:
• Public Health Nurse last day is June 11. Temporary nurse will be hired for 10-12
hours per week.
• Cholesterol clinics functioning with 10-12 clients per clinic/month cost raised to
$10.00/test.
• Certificate of Excellence for Food Establishments reviewed there will be no
Board signatures on certificates.
Certificates will be used beginning July 2004.
• Mosquito control. DPW ready with pesticide licenses to drop Vectolex WSP
in storm drains. Town Meeting transferred $1700 from free cash to BOH
budget to cover cost of 2800 vectolex pouches. Town storm drain canvas with
mosquito larvacide will begin at the end of June.
• Camps. and pool inspections and licensures issued and inspections continue
throughout the summer.
• The Girl Scout Gold Award health assessment tool is complete. Callie
Beckwith will gather a minimum of 200 surveys before the tally is done.
• Sealer of Weights and Measures completed a survey of businesses using item
scanning approximately 88 % return.
• Home Depot has scheduled opening date for August 19. Jordan's Furniture
will being leasing space to Richardson Ice Cream and a restaurant to be
announced later with 150 seats. They will also have a candy shop and a movie
concession stand.
• Phase two will have Starbuck Coffee, Baer Sandwich shop, Macaroni Grill,
Linen shop, Bank and stationary store all but bank require inspections and
licensing from the health division.
• Chili's will open in September.
General Discussion:
The Board will participate in a tour of the water treatment plant at 6:30 p.m. on
September 9,2004 right after a brief Board meeting at 6 in Town Hall.
The July 8, 2004 Board meeting is canceled.
Motion made to adjourn meeting at 7:30 p.m.
Next meeting August 12, 2004.
