The Board of Health meeting was called to order on April 15,48 M5 y 22
Chairman Barbara Meade at the Berger Room, Town Hall. Those present at the meeting
were Barbara Meade Chair, Colleen Seferian, and Dr. David Singer.
In attendance: Larry Ramdin, Staff Liaison/ Health Services Administrator.
OLD BUSINESS
Minutes March 13, 2008 were read and approved 3:0:0
NEXT ORDER OF BUSINESS
YMCA Splash pad
Kathleen Walsh from the YMCA informed the Board of plans by the YMCA to install a
splash-pad at the YMCA, in the current patio area outside the swimming pool. The water
will be re-circulated, hence the designation of the pad as a special purpose pool.
The pool will be compliant with the Massachusetts Swimming Pool Code 105CMR 435.
The application to install the splash pad was approved pending final approval by the
Health Division after submission of application plans, supporting documents and required
fees. 3;0:0
Appointment of Health Inspector as an Agent of the Board of Health
- The Board of Health voted to appoint any Health Inspector hired by the Town of Reading
and employed in the Reading Health Division as an Agent of the Board of Health. 3:0:0
Part time Health Inspector
The Board was advised that Casey Mellin, RS was hired as a part time Health Inspector,
Casey is aRegistered Sanitarian, and is employed as a full-time health inspector in
Woburn. Casey Mellin will be presented to the Board for introduction to the Board and
confirmation of his appointment.
Mosquito control
The mosquito control project will be applying BT to the swamps in the upcoming week.
In, June we will be treating the catch basins for larvae and we were also advised that the
number mosquito-borne illnesses is expected to be mild based on previous cycles.
Venetian Moon
Venetian Moon restaurant has applied to increase the occupancy, the increase is limited
to the waiting area, we have advised that no food service will be permitted in the waiting
area as that would exceed the supplied seating information and any additional seating will
require a full plan review of the facility.
Funeral Director Permits
Three Funeral permits were presented to the Board for signature
Noise Complaint Tennyson Circle
The YMCA has installed baffles on the roof and the DEP will be conducting testing on
the noise complaint.
Sharps Disposal
The State is currently reviewing sharps disposal rules. Further MDPH has offered sharps
collection kiosks to communities we will not be applying for a kiosks this round. We will
discuss funding availability with DPW.
Administrative report
Final inspections have been conducted on the Market Basket Supermarket at General
Way, and all public permits have been issues as well as the Sushi rice variance. The
supermarket is expected to open at the end of April.
An administrative hearing was held with the management of Bear rock Cafe to discuss
repeat violations and actions that they will institute to prevent re-occurrence of the
violations. The meeting yielded positive results and the Health Division is satisfied that
Bear rock has adequate plans in place to address the violations and prevent their re-
occurrence.
The rabies clinic was well attended, the traffic was steady. Dr. Leverone has advised that
he is considering increasing administration fees.
The Health Services Administrator and the Public. Health Nurse have visited the RMHS
Field House to review the suitability for use as an emergency Dispensing site ( EDS).
The Health Director presented his written report which was accepted by the Board
There being no other business Colleen Seferian made amotion to adjourn seconded by
Barbara Meade with a 3:0:0 vote. Meeting adjourned 8:25 pm
