The Board of Health meeting was called to order on June 12, 2008 at 6:07 pm by
Chairman Barbara Meade at the Berger Room, Town Hall. Those present at the meeting
were Barbara Meade Chair, and Colleen Seferian and Dr. David Singer.
In attendance: Joseph Tatone, Architect, David Myers- Town Pizza, Blair Howell, Heidi
Pfeifer,Tara Coyne, Nancy O'Connor and Larry Ramdin, Staff Liaison/ Health Services
Administrator.
OLD BUSINESS
Minutes of May 6, 2008 were read and accepted 3:0:0
Applications and New Licenses
Joseph Tatone Architect for Five senses Day Care, The Day care asked the Board to
support its request for a variance from the plumbing code as it pertains to bathroom
requirements. Mr. Tatone presented the rationale for the request and the Board was
advised that the Health Division has no objection to the application. The Board voted
3:0:0 to support the application for a variance to the State Plumbing Code.
David Myers applied for a New Food Establishment Permit for Town Pizza. Mr. Myers
in the process of purchasing Town Pizza and is hoping to close at the end of June. The
Board discussed the application and voted to approve the application for a new Food
Establishment permit, pending final approval by the Health Division 3:0:0
Blair Howell, resident 148 Salem Street, appeared before the Board applying for a
Keeping of Animals permit. There was discussion on the application and the Board was
advised that all requirements have been met except abutter notification.
The Board approved the permit application pending final approval by the Health Division
3:0:0
Confirmation of Appointment of Casey Mellin Health Inspector
The Board was introduced to Casey Mellin, Casey is a Registered Sanitarian is
conducting inspections 11 hours per week, mostly on weekends and nights.
The Board welcomed Casey and voted to confirm his appointment as an agent of the
Board 3:00
Visit Nursing Students Regis College
Heidi Pfeifer, Tara Coyne, and Nancy O'Connor, Regis College Nurse Practitioner
Students attended the meeting as part of their academic requirements. The students asked
about administrative procedures of the Board.
Regionalization of Local Public Health
The Health Services Administrator that the project was ongoing and the liability bill has
passed the Senate and is currently before the House. There is no action on the
regionalization bill.
Administrative report
The Health Administrator his report to the Board. The report was accepted
The Board enquired as to the visit at Covanta energy. Covanta is looking ahead to
mercury recycling as on the environmental /green side fluorescent bulbs are in greater
use, the down side to this is that as these bulbs burn out we will have to deal with a
mercury problem as fluorescent bulbs contain mercury.
New Business
The Eastern Middlesex Control program will be commencing spraying to treat adult
mosquitoes. The wet weather that we have been experiencing will only serve to increase
water pools for mosquito breeding so we are anticipating an increase in the mosquito
population. The DPW will begin treating the catch basins at the beginning of July.
There being no other business Colleen Seferian made a motion to adjourn seconded by
Barbara Meade with a 3:0:0 vote. Meeting adjourned 8:35 pm
