The Board of Health meeting was called to order on November 18, 2009 at 5:30 pm lao, DEC 15 P 1: the Berger Room, Town Hall, by Barbara Meade Chair. Those present at the meeting were Barbara Meade Chairman, Dr David Mitchell Singer, and Colleen Seferian. In attendance: Larry Ramdin, Health Services Administrator (Health Director)/ Staff Liaison. Sarah Blumenstock- Girrell- The Goddard School, Ben Hitchcock- RCASA and Connie DeBenedetto, RCASA Minutes Minutes of meetings held October 14 were read and approved with corrections 3:0:0 New license: The Goddard School Torre Street Larry Ramdin presented the application of the Goddard School for a food permit. The school's plans were reviewed and were found to meet the requirements of the Food Code. The foods that will be served are snacks and milk. Food will be stored in a commercial refrigerator. Approval of the permit was recommended. The Board asked Ms. Blumenstock about the school, the meals that will be served and she advised that it was daycare type operation and only snacks will be served. The Board vote and approved the Food permit 3:0:0 RCASA Youth Crew RCASA Youth Crew member Ben Hitchcock and Connie DeBenedetto, RCASA member were welcomed to the meeting. They asked to address the Board, on their work. The Youth crew is currently conducting a survey on behalf of the Massachusetts tobacco Control program to establish tobacco usage levels in Reading. The crew has had success with the survey and asked if they could receive a letter of support form the Board and Ben Hitchcock was advised that the Board will issue the letter, details will be worked out between Erica McNamara RCASA Director and Larry Ramdin Health Director. The Board congratulated Ben and the RCASA youth crew for their exemplary efforts and noted that it was quite heartening to see youth so involved in their health. Administrative Report The Health Administrator presented the Department report and it was accepted 3:0:0. Flu Clinic Update The seasonal flu clinic was held on Saturday November 14, and 578 vaccines were administered. We are expecting an additional supply of seasonal flu vaccines and once in hand we will advertise a seasonal flu clinic, to be held at the Parker Middle School. H1N1 clinics for pregnant women care givers of infants under 6 months and spouses /partners of women in their third trimester of pregnancy are currently being vaccinated by appointment only. Clinics for the High and Middle schools are being planned and as soon as vaccines are available in a sufficient amount they will be administered. Old Business Briarwood Condominium Association The Health Director met with a representative of the Briarwood condominium Pool committee and reviewed the issues with the pool and discussed effective pool management protocols for the upcoming pool season 2010. The meeting was cordial and the representative asked to meet again and was advised that the Health Director is available all they have to do is request the meeting. New Business No new Business Other Business There being no other business the Board voted to adjourn with a 3:0:0 vote. Meeting adjourned at 6:55 pm. Next meeting will be held on December 10, 2009 in the Berger Room, Town Hall.
