June 23, 1997
The meeting convened at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room, 16 Lowell Street, Reading,
Massachusetts. Present were Chairman Allan Foulds, FinCom Chairman Jim Keigley, Selectmen
Chairman George Hines, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner, and FinCom candidates Carol
Grimm, Larry Penta and Paul Kurker.
Ms. Grimm was interviewed first as an incumbent member of the Finance Committee who desires
to be reappointed. She noted that major issues facing the FinCom are continuing capital needs
and she hopes to continue with the Capital Improvement Advisory Subcommittee.
Paul Kurker has two young children, and is interested in schools and interested in continuing the
team work that has been established through the Budget Council.
Larry Penta noted that the schools were a priority for him. He wanted to help "straighten things
out." He would not be a rubber stamp for programs or projects.
On motion by Hines seconded by Keigley the following names were placed into nomination for a
term on the Finance Committee expiring June 30, 2000: Carol Grimm, Richard McDonald, Paul
Kurker, Larry Penta. Ms. Grimm, Mr. McDonald, and Mr. Kurker received three votes each and
were appointed to these terms.
On motion by Hines seconded by Keigley the name Larry Penta was placed into nomination for a
term on the Finance Committee expiring June 30, 1998. Mr. Penta received three votes and was
appointed.
