May 17, 2006
Russ Graham, Sheila Clarke and Leslie McGonagle met in the Town Hall Conference Room, 1'6
Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts with Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner. This was not
an official meeting as Ms. McGonagle was not yet sworn in.

The Town Manager noted that there is one additional applicant for the committee, and the Board
of Selectmen will consider that application next Tuesday.
The Town Manager reviewed the operating procedures for Boards, Committees and
Commissions, the portion of the Master Plan addressing the establishment of an Economic
Development Committee, and the policy establishing the Economic Development Committee.
The Town Manager also reviewed the policy establishing the Ad Hoc Task Force to evaluate
Downtown parking noting that one of the members would be nominated by the Economic
Development Committee to serve on that body.
The members present discussed whether or not to appoint a Chairman but since this was not an
official meeting because of lack of a quorum., this could not be done.
The Committee agreed to meet on June 14th at 7:30 p.m. They would like Ben Tafoya to be
present to review with them whatever thoughts the Board of Selectmen has with regard to
economic development.
The following material will be mailed to the Committee: A copy of the Zoning By-Laws and
Map (GIS based), and a copy of the full Master Plan.
The Economic Development Committee would also like to meet with CPDC at their earliest
convenience to discuss with them what their particular thoughts and interests are in the work of
the Economic Development Committee.
At some point, perhaps on the 14th, the Town Planner and Town Manager will review with the
Economic Development Committee the economic activities that seem to be pending within the
community.
The Economic Development Committee members and staff will think about how to keep the
Economic Development Committee up to speed on economic development issues that come
before the Town.
