HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-09-06 Economic Development Committee MinutesMINUTES Economic Development Committee (ED) September 6, 2006 RECEIVED Russell Graham, John Russell, Sheila Clarke, Meghan Young-Tafoya, Leslie McGonagle arie 'Cersten, Robert Foley, Michelle Harrison, Ron Powell met at Town Hall, 16 Lowell Str a husetts beginning at 7:30 P.M. 7901 MAY 10 P 1' 22 ➢ EDC met with Robert Foley, Program Manager, Economic Assistance Coordinating Council and Annamarie Kersten, Regional Director, Massachusetts Office of Business Development. Annamarie Kersten gave a brief outline of the Massachusetts Economic Development Incentive Program, Economic Target Areas, as well as the District Improvement Finance Program. Robert Foley then gave a breakdown of the Massachusetts Business Resource Team. He outlined various BRT partners and programs: o MA Alliance for Economic Development (MAED) - Site finder services o Workforce Training Fund (WTF) - Workforce trarriing grants 6 Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) - Small business counseling and consulting After the presentations the committee along with its partners determined it would be beneficial for the EDC to meet with the Department of Housing and Community Development. Brad Jones volunteered to schedule meeting for November to discuss the following: o Community Development Strategy o Small Cities program o Community Development Grants o CDF Fund The committee should be prepared to present a GIS map of all opportunities within Reading. .review of July 6, 2006 meeting Minutes ➢ On motion by Russell, seconded by Young-Tafoya, the minutes of 7.6.06 were approved by a vote of 4-0-0. Open Agenda - Tonics Discussed ➢ EDC discussed the John and Abigail Adams Grant availability and Sheila Clarke is to review. ➢ EDC discussed getting a boilerplate for Grants - Sheila Clarke to contact Chris Reilly to see if there is an existing template. Meeting Schedule ➢ EDC scheduled a follow-up meeting for September 14, 2006 at 7:00 to discuss website project research by Meghan Young-Tafoya and Sheila Clarke. Russell Graham will contact Peter Hechenbleikner for location. ➢ Next regularly scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, October 4, 2006, in the Arnold Berger Room, Town Hall, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts beginning at 7:30 P.M.
