Review of September 6, 2006 meeting MINUTES
On motion by McGonagle, seconded by Russell, the MINUTES of 9.6.06 were approved on a unanimous
vote.
Agenda Review
• Russell Graham and John Russell met with both David Nugent and Bob Norstrand to discuss commercial real
estate opportunities within Reading. It was the consensus that our demographic represented a strong success rate
for food stores, salons/spas, gift shops, small office, etc. Our (Readings) opportunities lie within Zoning Issues
(building setbacks, By-laws, etc.). The EDC is to review the Commercial Industry Report and create a
spreadsheet outlining open businesses within town. Peter Hechenbleikner suggested the EDC member attend the
CPDC Zoning WorAshop scheduled for 10. 16.06 if available.
• Peter Hechenbleikner discussed a vendor, Buxton, which researches demographic/driving distances for
commercial opportunities within towns. The company will give profiles on what would be most likely to locate
within your districts. Peter will find out what dates they would be available to meet in Boston.
• EDC discussed creating a marketing packet to include zoning, master plan outline, demographics, available town
resources, etc. for new business. Peter has begun creating a sample for the South Main Street business available
(Tuxedo and Frame shop). EDC should finalize what should be included in packet and research printing costs. It
was the committees thought that members of the CPDC could attend meetings with property owners to discuss
sale opportunities.
• Peter Hechenbleikner requested both a Title page and Business Tab page outline from Meghan Young-Tafoya and
Sheila Clarke for the town website by next scheduled meeting. The committee also discussed the possibility of
creating a an email address for the EDC to answer new business questions.
