Economic Development Committee (EDC)
August 8, 2007
Attendance: Leslie McGonagle, Megan Young - Tafoya, Jack Russell, Russell Graham, Carol Kowalski, and
Sheila Clarke
Review of 07.25.07 meeting MINUTES
• On a motion by McGonagle, seconded by Russell, the MINUTES OF 07.25.07 were approved
unanimously.
Agenda Review
Survey Review
• The vendor Survey Monkey will be a possibility for the Residential Survey that has yet to be created. A
printed survey questionnaire would also be published in the town newspapers to either driving people to
the town website to take it or mail it back to the EDC.
• EDC Business Breakfast has been tentatively rescheduled for 10/10 @ 7:30 am - Russell Graham will
touch base with the Town Manager regarding location and catering details.
• EDC to discuss Business Breakfast meeting logistics (i.e. Presentation, Downtown Revitalization
rendering, etc.) at the next scheduled meeting.
Farmers Market
Michele Ferullo, creator, spoke with Carol Kowalski and explained how she started the Reading Farmers
Market with one farm and would be enthusiastic about it being expanded. EDC to research logistics of
location, permitting, liability, etc. and then a sub-committee will be created. Sheila Clarke will begin to
research existing markets in Cohasset and Lexington.
Creative Arts
• Carol Kowalski met with Jennifer Hart, Director, Creative Arts; to discuss location possibilities. They
reviewed vacancies within town but none have been confirmed.
Workplan
• Website update - Sheila Clarke to contact Bob Lelacheur, Assistant Town Manager, regarding EDC
page and implementing Adams recommendations.
• Meghan Young-Tafoya to create a working project/task list for EDC to review at each meeting.
Other Business
• Committee members need to email Carol regarding contact information you would like included on your
business card (i.e. home phone number, cellular phone, etc.)
• EDC to schedule meeting with local resident architects regarding ideas for local business to utilize for
updating existing building facades. Tentative for 11/14 EDC meeting.
• Sheila Clarke to forward standard Town Power Point sides to committee.
• Jeremy Cyrier, Commercial Real Estate Agent, ReMax is confirmed to meet with EDC on 8/22 at 7:00
p.m.
