HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-03-24 Arts Council MinutesReading Arts Council. Minutes March 24, 1993 Members present: Fran Brown, Alice Collins, Mary Grosvenor, Bev McAleer, Jane McKenzie, David Mitchell and Diane Slezak. Minutes from the January 27, 1993 meeting were approved. Treasurer's report was accepted as submitted. Our money is in from the state. Alice distributed paperwork from the state regarding approval of all of the applications we submitted and a master list of them. Old business: There was a discussion of our findings (after having talked individually to various arts organizations over the past two months), concerning our May community input meeting. There are some common topics of concern as well some individual. Publicity for events is a concern of the Reading Choral Society, Colonial Chorus and Creative Arts. Grant sources, other than the Reading Arts Council, are needed by the Enrichment Committees, Reading Art Association and Creative Arts. The Enrichment Committees would like a town wide Authors' Day with the RPL and hoped for a multicultural event for the 350th Anniversary. Creative Arts is still interested in an Arts Building. New business: Alice mentioned we might like to consider belonging to a Boston based grantmakers association which furnishes you with a catalog of grants we could leave at the RPL for anyone interested in applying. An upcoming collaboration of community organizations is the Reading Photographic Society doing a book of photos for-the 350th Committee. Appropriate speakers for our May community input meeting would be editor Bruce Morang, of the "Daily Times Chronicle," to share publicity suggestions; and either acting assistant superintendent Sue Wheltle or someone from the New England Foundation for the THE READING ARTS COUNCIL Reading Arts Council Minutes March 24, 1993 Page 2 Arts, to share info about grant programs. Alice will make some calls and see what she can line up. Other business: We are in need of some new members. Currently there is one opening on the council and there will be three more with the ending of terms for Fran Brown, Mary Grosvenor and MaryEllen LaCroix. Any ideas? Our next meeting will be on April 28, 1993, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Reading Public Library. We will be planning our May community input meeting. Respectfully submitted, Diane N.
