Reading Cultural Council Meeting Minutes January 16, 2002
7:30pm at the Reading Public Library
Members in attendance: Harold Bond, Anna Dixon, Ann Rotondo, Diana LaVancher, Allison
DaSilva, Joyce Holt and Judy Junker.
Allison DaSilva passed out the agenda.
Judy Junker passed out the edited minutes of the June 13, 2001 and the Sept. S, 2001 meetings.
The edited minutes were approved.
Judy passed out the Oct.3, and Oct. 24th meeting minutes for approval.
The council read the minutes and there was a discussion of the Oct. 3, 2001 minutes.
It is important to go through the Guidelines first and agree on them before publicizing them.
Repeated the Orchestra PASS Grants.
Drama presentations are important to fund every year for all students to eventually experience as
they go through their grades.
Allison motioned for the minutes to be approved with corrections and Ann and Anna seconded
the motion, all approved.
Allison Joyce and Ann motioned to accept as corrected.
Ann Rotondo passed out the Treasurer's Report.
Account Balance $1,300 outstanding
$900 Joshua Eaton had to attend an audit and did not get a chance to get the checks back for a
reimbursement form.
Unitarian Universalist church $200 check came in and Treble Chorus checks will be in.

We are supposed to take out 5%
Jovice Holt asked is $433 left over from the 5% form last near? It costs $195 each near to do the
Grant Books.
Joyce suggested to take the $433 + $100 and Orrant the full $10.000 this year. Ann Rotondo said
the Cultural Award will cost and take $455 admin. We received a grant of S500. Is 5750 enoug
to get by next year?
Other expenses for the Cultural Council: Flowers, printing costs could brine costs to $888.
What does it take to do it right?
Is there a cost for ads? No they are free.
Do a calendar for Nadine of the Reading Advocate. The venue for the cultural award is tree. The
costs are refreshments, plaques, flowers. The first year we had a "Taste of Reading" which was
free food, an Art Exhibit was free put on by the Reading Art Association and Music was free,
donated by Creative Arts.
Ann Rotondo said $750 is cutting yourself short. You must add 9 books $250 and signs. Joyce.
Holt said if there is too much money in Administrative funds this year, then we can regrant it.
Peter Heckenbleckner has not given back to the RCC re: past interest asked for in 1997.

Allison passed around a Christmas card from EMARC.

Anna Dixon will attend from the Reading Cultural Council.
A thank you form the Reading Public Library
Ruth Harkovitz wrote a thank you for the denial letter. She would like help with how to proceed
with next year's grant application. Anna Dixon said to send her our guidelines checking off
partial funding.
Ann Rotondo said to tell Ruth to approach the Senior Coordinator to get more funding. The
senior center could charge ticket prices for money to help with the funding.
The State Ethics Commission Bulletin was passed out.
Joyce Holt was surprised we get $10,000 because our judges were asked to take a V011.111tan' pay°
cut.
The MCC Local Cultural Council Summary Form - Fiscal Year 2002 was passed out.
Allison DaSilva said let's decide whom to give the extra $300 to.

Joyce Holt asked if RCTV could send a video of the work they did on the grant.
Allison went over all the awarded Grants totaling $10-3 00. All approved it.
Allison read the summary sheet form the MCC.
All applicants are in MA.
Do all applicants from schools for PASS applications, on list, prices State allows.

Is there a reconsideration period? Yes.
Has the Local Cultural Council summary form been completed`? Ann Rotondo is working, on it.

Allison DaSilva is filling out the form and will send it into the MCC.
Voting Information Forum
Allison took out the denied grants and will send the approved grants with a list of minutes from
the most recent community input meeting and the input meeting minutes and keep the
disapproved grants for our own records. Submit it by 1/25/02 Allison will send it by certified
mail on 1/ 17/02.
Ann Rotondo said if the MCC sees that we are taking the past interest and purchased the signs
and the interest money will be used.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:OOPM. The next Cultural Recognition Award voting will be at
the Reading Public Library Open House on March 23, 2002 form I OAM-5PM.
The next Cultural Council meeting will be 2/13/02 at the Reading Public Library.
