A lengthy discussion ensued about the Burbank legacy and the use of the interest from
the investment by the Commissioners of Trust Funds.
- Mrs. Burbank gave the money as a result of services given to her by Elder
Services staff that related to her shopping needs and grief support. Joanne
Wooldridge referred to them as the "nuts and bolts services related to activities of
daily living".
Several suggestions were presented including respite caregiver's coverage, access
to medical alert systems, legal support for low income seniors, subsidized medical
treatment, social activities, and programming.
Members agreed with Dave Brigham's point about not spending all available
interest as a way of hedging against the vagaries of the stock market while
preserving the principal and allowing for its growth.
Mary Mundjer was thanked for her service to the Council and her participation in events
and activities at the Center. We wished Mary well as she prepares for her move to New
Hampshire.
Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Lois K. Bond
