Bond thanked the Board members for their support of her Business and Professional
Women's Achievement Award. On behalf of the COA Foxon affirmed the award.
Bond attended the annual MCOA meeting and talked about workshops on E911,
computerized statistical reporting for EOEA and an oral history project similar to what
Scuttlebutt members are doing.
The FY'2000 budget as submitted was reviewed.
Home Minor Repair program is waiting final legal approval prior to letters being mailed
to contractors inviting them to participate in the program. COA affirmed that any
contractor in the program should be licensed and carries liability insurance.
Foxon distributed the SPICE event schedule. Dates include November 12, 1998, and in
1999: March 11, June 10, and September 9. All meetings include personal and home
safety tips and scam information.
A discussion ensued about Center activity visibility. The Board endorsed the idea of
calling it the Pleasant Street Center as a way of countering the stereotype that a Senior
Center is a place for "old" people. Activities on the first floor and receptionist/staff
presence will be more welcoming. Staff encouraged increased intergenerational activity
through the schools and churches. It was noted that the COA meeting is often not posted
in the paper.
