Chairperson Mary Andreola called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
The agenda was suspended to enable guest Frank Orlando, RMHS principal, to speak with the
members about the school's long range planning process. Two surveys were distributed: funding
sources and graduation requirements. Members enthusiastically endorsed the granting of
diplomas to Reading veterans who served in World War II. Scuttlebutt contacts were given to
Mr. Orlando.
Minutes of the January 11, 1999 meeting were moved by by Gay Williams and seconded by
Gladys Cail. 8-0-0
Financial report was moved by Gay Williams and seconded by Gladys Cai18-0-0
Administrator's report was moved by Gladys Cail and seconded by Gay Williams. 8-0-0
The annual statistical report and the short form of the annual report were distributed and
reviewed.
Discussion continued from last month's meeting on the long range planning process. The charts
were reviewed and the topics were reviewdconsidered: home care; institutionalization; Day care;
Insurance; Housing; Recreation; Transportation in and out-of-town; Supportive services such as
nutrition, shopping, home making, personal care, telephone; safety; Ethics; Intergeneration;
Communication; Funding; Demographics; Locations of parking; Traffic patterns; Activities. A
list was developed of potential committee representation including: Housing complex
representatives; Housing Authority; Elder Services; EOEA; Mystic Valley Elder Services; Public
Health; Gerontologist; Statistician; Board of Selectmen; Consumer; Town Planner; Library. The
next meeting we will look at the list and begin to refine and define the topics.
The new program requests for FY 2000 budget were reviewed: (1) The Program Coordinator will
be located at the Center to provide a staff presence in the building and address a goal of
increasing participation in Center programs and services. (2) A family Social Worker to address
the needs of younger families and individuals who need assistance and access to social services.
Announcements included the dates for the Governor's Conference on Aging in May, the
Walking Club training conference in March, and the Tax exemption/property tax workers
workshop in March.
