HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-04-12 Council on Aging MinutesCouncil on Aging April 12, 1999 Berger Room, Town Hall 16 Lowell Street Reading, MA 01867-2684 Present: Mary Andreola, Dave Brigham, Gladys Cail, Betty Cronin, Dottye Foxon, Beth Moore, Joanne O'Brien, Gay Williams, Joanne Wooldridge, Lois Bond Excused: Edwina Kasper Chairperson Mary Andreola called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. Minutes of the March 8, 1999 meeting were moved by Joanne Wooldridge and seconded by Joanne O'Brien. 9-0-0 Financial report was reviewed. Administrator's report was moved by Dave Brigham and seconded by Gay Williams. 9-0-0 Mary Andreola talked about her experience as a SHINE counselor and people's difficulties paying their prescription bills. She and the RES office are working with the doctors to access free drugs offered by the pharmaceutical companies. It will be a cooperative effort between the doctors and SHINE counselors. Extensive discussion about pharmacy bills resulted in the following motion: Dottye Foxon moved and Betty Cronin seconded a motion to use a portion of the interest from the Burbank Trust Fund to assist people with their pharmacy bills. Selection criteria to be developed by COA and RES staff. 9-0-0 Joanne Wooldridge, Beth Moore and Marie Ammer will develop selection criteria for people needing to access the Fund. The COA will consider use of the Burbank Fund if there are no other sources of money to pay for the remaining costs of the computerized telephone alert system.
