HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-07-09 Council on Aging MinutesCouncil on Aging 9th 2001 Jul y Town Hall 16 Lowell Street Reading, MA 01867 2"; , 12: 0, Present: Dick Anderson, Betty Cronin, Edwina Kasper, Ed Merullo, Joanne O'Brien, Barbara Powers, Gay Williams, Pamela Brown Administrator Excused: Ray Cabot, Dottye Foxon, and John O'Neill • Betty Cronin called the meeting to order at 7:25 p.m. • The minutes of June's meeting were accepted with one correction, Barbara Powers had been present. A motion by Williams seconded Anderson to approve the June minutes were approved by a vote 7-0-0. • Pamela gave the Administrator's report-highlights are noted: • She has been going to the Center to meet people and experience the variety of Programs offered; she is taking the Thursday afternoon receptionist coverage. The computer lab is now ready; everything is hooked up except the printer, which doesn't work- a new one, will be purchased. Bill (the technical person) will submit a report to the Council regarding the cost and activities in which his staff have been involved, and is willing to meet with the Board if we want. Sue Reardon has three volunteers- one from the high school and two from the middle school- who are willing to assist with the training of interested seniors. Pamela will work with Sue et al and get a flyer put together with other publicity as will. • The temporary full-time van driver has resigned and a full-time temporary person hired. Until her permanent position is approved by the Board of Selectman she is working as the "temporary substitute full-time" van driver. A substitute van driver remains to be hired. • There will be a Senior Center Cookout on July 17`" sponsored by the Good Samaritan Lodge. Currently 48 people have signed up so far and 70 people can. be accommodated. • The report was accepted by the Board • Dick Anderson gave a brief update on the application that Peter Sanborn Place has submitted to the state. They would like to add 50 units to the existing facility- 20 would fall under Section 8 (RHA), 20 under Section 40B (affordable housing) and 10 units would be open (market rate). A motion by O'Brien and seconded by Williams to adjourn the meeting was unanimous by a vote 7-0-0. • Meeting Adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
