Reading, MA 01867 J( ( i,1y V~3t -2 j'- 4UVJ ~jy\ i 9: 4I/~ Present: Dick Anderson, Barbara Powers, Edwina Kasper, Dottye Foxon, John O'Neill, Betty Cronin, Ed Merullo, Joanne O'Brien, Gay Williams, Pamela Brown (Director). Absent: Ray Cabot Dottye Foxon called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. • The minutes of April's meeting were approved (motion by John O'Neill, second by Betty Cronin). • Pamela reviewed the Financial Re oDi: Dick Anderson inquired about how the tax program works; Pamela responded that to this point, Marie (the social worker) has been handling it. The report was accepted, motion by Gay Williams, second by John O'Neill. Highlights of the Administrator's Report for April were reviewed. • The kick-off for Adopt an Island was held at the Center.. The Garden Club has been abtg to enlist several people to adapt garden areas around the Senior. Center this year. • Pamela gave a tour to the social worker and several residents from Longwood Place - they were pleased to be introduced to the facility and to learn about its offerings. • The April 25 h event featuring the State Secretary of Elder Affairs and Rep. Brad Jones was well attended. • Regarding the Computer Room, Pamela will ask Sue (coordinator of volunteers) to .find out if there will be high school mentors available during the summer. • Relative to MVES, Dick Anderson reported on the volunteer event that had been held recently, and again reminded us of the cut ($8M) in home health care for the new year. • In other business we discussed officer positions for the Board, giving thought to the appropriate role for the Board, identifying ways in which to make a more effective agenda, and the possibility of setting up sub-committees to address specific areas of concern. Pamela told us that the Young Women's League of Reading had made a $350 donation to Elder services, with which a boom box and karaoke machine will be purchased; Gay will write a thank you note. John O'Neill suggested publishing a "wish list" of needed or desired items in the newsletter and/or local newspapers. Dottye, John and Dick have -indicated a willingness to work as a sub-committee regarding the Salem State needs assessment. • The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m. • Pamela was excused and we then spent time compiling evaluation comments for her annual review with the Town Manager.
