• Dottye Foxon called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. and reported that Ray Cabot
had resigned from the board.
• The minutes of December's meeting were approved (motion by John O'Neill, second
by Edwina Kasper).
• Pamela reviewed the Financial Report. The report was moved for acceptance by
Betty Cronin and seconded by Barbara Powers, and passed.
• Highlights of the Administrator's Report for November was reviewed accepted; the
statistics will be updated through December for the February meeting. Pamela
commented on the good working relationship between her staff and the Winchester
Hospital for programming in Reading. There was some discussion of asking the
Patrons of Older Adults to underwrite programs for seniors. The holiday meal
distribution went smoothly.
• Regarding the Needs Assessment, it was noted that the COA sub-committee will
meet with Neal DeChillo of Salem State, later this month.
• Following on a recent news story regarding elders on the north shore and heat,
there was discussion about systematic checking on elderly. John commented that
historically, the people that really need this don't sign up for it. Betty suggested that
we make this a topic in our up-coming needs assessment.
• We addressed updating the mission statement for elder services. We proposed the
following: "Reading Elder Services will advocate, promote and provide programs
and services to meet the needs of Reading residents age 60 and over." Pamela will
review this with staff, and get reaction from those individuals.
• In other business, we touched on the following:
• Pamela has a meeting on Jan. 15`h with RMLD to plan a joint venture - likely a
lunch and learn event.
• Sue Reardon and Pamela will meet with Janet Quinn a Language Studies
Teacher at Coolidge Middle School and her class of 8th Graders about volunteer
opportunities.
• Beth Klepeis will be invited to attend next month's meeting if there is no Town
Meeting, to discuss the Property Tax Program.
• The meeting was adjourned at 7:13 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
