Present: Dottye Foxon, Barbara Powers, Edwina Kasper, John O'NeiII;:,B?tty Cronin, Gay Williams, Dick Anderson, Ruth Goldberg, Pamela Brown (AdministrEa(or): -2 : 43 • Dottye Foxon called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. and reported that Ray Cabot had resigned from the board. • The minutes of December's meeting were approved (motion by John O'Neill, second by Edwina Kasper). • Pamela reviewed the Financial Report. The report was moved for acceptance by Betty Cronin and seconded by Barbara Powers, and passed. • Highlights of the Administrator's Report for November was reviewed accepted; the statistics will be updated through December for the February meeting. Pamela commented on the good working relationship between her staff and the Winchester Hospital for programming in Reading. There was some discussion of asking the Patrons of Older Adults to underwrite programs for seniors. The holiday meal distribution went smoothly. • Regarding the Needs Assessment, it was noted that the COA sub-committee will meet with Neal DeChillo of Salem State, later this month. • Following on a recent news story regarding elders on the north shore and heat, there was discussion about systematic checking on elderly. John commented that historically, the people that really need this don't sign up for it. Betty suggested that we make this a topic in our up-coming needs assessment. • We addressed updating the mission statement for elder services. We proposed the following: "Reading Elder Services will advocate, promote and provide programs and services to meet the needs of Reading residents age 60 and over." Pamela will review this with staff, and get reaction from those individuals. • In other business, we touched on the following: • Pamela has a meeting on Jan. 15`h with RMLD to plan a joint venture - likely a lunch and learn event. • Sue Reardon and Pamela will meet with Janet Quinn a Language Studies Teacher at Coolidge Middle School and her class of 8th Graders about volunteer opportunities. • Beth Klepeis will be invited to attend next month's meeting if there is no Town Meeting, to discuss the Property Tax Program. • The meeting was adjourned at 7:13 p.m. Respectfully submitted, CIa y W all;~ Gay Williams, Sec'y
