June 14, 2004, 31 Council on Aging Meeting at the Reading Seniorc~ner`~ 49 Pleasant Street - Reading, Ma 01867 Present: Dick Anderson, Betty Cronin, Dottye Foxon, Ruth Goldberg, Sally Hoyt Edwina Kasper, Kristin Loring Kinsella, Carol Patterson, Barbara Powers, Carole Scrima. Pat, van driver and Richard Cardillo, Administrator. Betty Cronin called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. • The minutes of the May meeting were approved - motion by Ruth, 2nd by Carole • Richard presented the Administrator's Report - accepted • Financial Report - accepted • Richard introduced Lynn White, Executive Director of the Reading Housing. Authority - Lynn discussed ways the COA and the RHA can work together to help Reading seniors - more older seniors are applying for housing thus they are in need of more services - Lynn works with Community Parish Nursing to help with these needs - she is working on getting a van which would mean Pat would not have to transport seniors at Tannerville • Discussed the Family Housing planned for next door to the Senior Center and the effect it might have on the Center's parking lot. Lynn assured us it would not take any spots away and she might even be able to give us one or two more - Richard asked Lynn to keep us informed and Sally suggested we appoint a liaison from the COA Board when the public meetings start • Our second guest, Helen Lanagan, did not show up • Betty asked board members to attend the Senior Center Open House on Tuesday, June 22 at 10:00am if possible - free food from Cafe 607 - this is a good opportunity for seniors to meet and chat with the board • Richard gave Peter Sebring, the railing installer, 24 hour notice. If he does not show up, Richard will call someone else. • Two or three high school students will help seniors, on the computer, to determine if they should get the new Prescription Cards. • 128 Ford donating van to be retro-fitted - $9000.00 was allocated • Money was donated for a DVD and it has been installed New Business: The light outside the Center is broken - won't be repaired until after July 1 Stair treads will be refinished - going to study the safety issue Covers for the Center's bathrooms are under consideration.
