Reading Senior Center - Arts and Crafts Room
Betty Cronin opened the meeting at 6:30. Present were: Betty Cronin, Carol Patterson, I
Anderson, Edwina Kasper, Barbara Powers, Carole Scrima, and Dawn Folopoulos,
Administrator. Pat Boyd, the van driver was present. Absent - Ruth Goldberg, Dottye
Foxon and Sally Hoyt.. Betty introduced new member Stacey Bertocchi and Marguerite
Bosnian, who may become an alternate member of the board.
Motion to accept September minutes by Dick, 2nd by Carole Scrima.
Administrator's Report: Changes being implemented at the Senior Center are going well.
Sharon Thomas, the former Nutrition Program Coordinator, was hired as the Senior Center
Coordinator of the center. She is very enthusiastic about the job and fits in perfectly.
Dawn explained a little bit about the Fuel Assistance Program. Marie Ammer handles the
applications for the program and expects to see more applicants this year.
The monthly statistics for 2004 and 2005 (up to September) were compared and Dawn
went through it for the Board.
Administrator's report accepted unanimously.
Financial Report:
There were some questions on the Schroeder Account, since it showed a zero balance
and the Burbank Fund. Dawn said something about new accounting staff and is looking into
it.
Dawn was asked at the last meeting to check with Peter about letter sent in regard to the Tax
Work Program, asking the town to pay for the Senior Tax Work Program out of town taxes.
Peter responded via email that it will be considered in the FY 2007 budget.
Financial Report accepted unanimously.
Old Business: Training for COA Board Members is being held on Wednesday, October 26
at 1:00 pm at Mystic Valley Elder Services office. Dawn, Betty, Carole Scrima and Barbara
hope to attend.
Several programs to help keep seniors safe were discussed. Dawn spoke to Officer Robbins
of the Reading PD about the Yellow Dot Program, which is being used in some communities.
Grey Alert is another program designed to help seniors who wander. Police collect the
seniors' information, which is kept confidential until needed by medical or social workers.
SPICE is another program to consider. Police Chief Cormier is very supportive in
collaborating with Dawn and the COA.
Dick had statistics from MVES and plans to speak to Director Dan O'Leary to ascertain how
many Reading seniors are getting services not included the document.
New Business: Halloween Party invitation were passed out to the members. Party is on
October 31 from 2:30 - 4:30 sponsored by Edward Jones.
Edwina modeled a jacket made in her quilting class, which is very popular. The jacket was
lovely. Edwina was instrumental in forming the quilting class.
Information on the Flu Shots will be in the November Pleasantries.
Next meeting we will be asking for volunteers to deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas
dinners.

Next meeting Monday, Nov. 14 at 6:00 (early due to scheduled Town Meeting)
