HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-05-08 Council on Aging Minutestl Council on Aging Board Meeting Monday, May 8, 2006 Reading Senior Center Arts and Crafts Room . t.j Dick Anderson, Chairman, opened the meeting at 6:35. Present were: Betty Cronin, Barbara Powers, Carole Scrima, Carol Patterson, Ruth Goldberg, Dottye Foxon. Marguerite Bosnian, associate member and Dawn Folopoulos, Administrator. Absent Stacey Bertocchi, Sally Hoyt April minutes accepted. Motion by Dottye, 2nd by Carol Patterson Administrator's Report: accepted Motion by Ruth, 2nd by Carol Financial Report accepted Dick resigned from the COA Board and also the WES Board. Dottye also resigned from the COA Board. Dick and Dottye's resignations are effective June 30, 2006. Marguerite Bosnian will apply to become a full Board member. Dick has recommended to MVES that Dawn be assigned in his place Suggested nominations for new officers: Carol Patterson - Chairman Carole Scrima - Vice Chairman Stacey Bertocchi - Secretary Dick will call Sally and Stacey to ask if they are interested in being an officer. Discussed Town Day - We will have a Crossword Puzzle of Reading's past and present - answers will be available at the Senior Center to encourage people to drop in. - We are purchasing plastic bags for Elder Service information. 1000 shopping bags will be purchased - in red & black colors with our Logo - as a giveaway. Our giveaway bags will include a File of Life, Puzzle, Senior Center Programs and more Motion made to approve up to $500.00 from the Burbank Fund for the purchase of the bags and imprinting costs for Family and Friends Day - made by Betty, 2°d Carole Scrima - Volunteers to man our booth at Family and Friends Day 10:00-12:00 Marguerite, Dottye and Carole Scrima 12:00 - 2:00 - Carol Patterson, Edwina, Ruth Dawn will put together a slide show with pictures of activities at the Senior Center, possibly to oldies music. 1, ,L The town has agreed to take back the cost of the Property Tax Worker Program as of July 1, 2006. Many suggestions have been received in the senior center's comment/suggestion box. And many of the ideas have already been implemented. Dawn has submitted a proposal to the Hospital Trust Fund to continue to coordinate the Medical Taxi Program. In the proposal she has requested an increase to eligibility income limit for the Medical Taxi Program in order that it be more inclusive. Dawn is looking for ideas of about how to clean lounge chairs. Plans for a Jazz Coffee House with singer Patty Carpenter were discussed - some ideas suggested were opening it to the public - having a Block parry - early Sept. a Sat afternoon (3 - 5 pm) - Inviting the High School Jazz Band to perform as well - Open mic for singing, stories or poetry - it could become the first of an annual Jazz Festivals. Pat Brennan leads BEST - a popular exercise group - she would like to collect $35.00 per class but there aren't always enough participants. Dawn will write a request to the COA to supplement her fees from the Burbank Fund. Motion to close meeting at 8:25 made by Ruth, 2"d by Dottye.
