Reading Alliance for Climate and Enerov? <>Cities for Climate Protection Program Reading Committee Notes for Jan 12, 2006 All committee members were present (Stephanie Anderberg, Michele Benson, Ron Daddario, Gina Snyder, and Tracy Sopchak). <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> Members unanimously elected Ron Daddario chair and Gina Snyder secretary for terms of 6 months, duties to be rotated on a 6-month basis among committee members. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> Ron has the application from ICLEI and will take the lead to fill it out and work with Peter Hechenbleikner to have it sent in with the $600 membership. Michele will be the local town department representative on the application form. Once the application is in, Ron will check with Kim on trying to get an intern to pull the data together, although electricity data is available from RMLD and might be easily input as a first step. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> The committee will keep in mind the opportunity to work with all four communities that are members of the Reading Municipal Light Department. Michele will take the lead to see if we can get an article or a series of articles in the RMLD newsletter and also what other support RMLD might provide. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> The committee would like to have a kick-off announcement or press event with Selectmen and possibly representatives from other town committees and departments (Town Manager, School Superintendent, Police Chief, DPW, School Committee, etc.). This could include taking a pledge similar to what Salem did (Salem Alliance for the Environment, SAFE). Tracy will take the lead on developing a pledge that might have three choices from the three categories Transportation, Energy and Waste. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> Ideas include: Advertising the pledge at the Atlantic or other public location, and possibly handing out a compact fluorescent bulb to everyone who takes a pledge (would RMLD supply bulbs?) Newspaper articles (maybe monthly) 1/13/06 Page 2 of 3 Ron is starting up an Eco-circles group to meet at the library Library display Ron will connect with Kim Lundgren of ICLEI about the software and possibly having her attend a meeting to show the software to the committee. Meetings will be the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Next meeting January 25th. Then Feb. 8 and 22, March 8 and 22, etc. Please let me know if I missed anything- Gina. Also, I am enclosing an example of a draft Press Release for you. There are some areas that need to be added and you may want to adjust the focus, but it is a start for you at least.
