Student Internship voted 3-8-06: Student Internship Town of Reading Greenhouse Gas Emissions Analysis Please post until April 14, 2006 The Town of Reading seeks a graduate or exceptional undergraduate student intern for part time work during the Summer of 2006. The intern will help the town begin the process of tackling global warming emissions. The Town of Reading has committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by joining the Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Campaign, a program of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). The intern will work in the Reading Municipal Light Department to begin the CCP process of developing a strategic local plan to reduce emissions. To help the Town of Reading to develop a local climate protection plan, the intern will: • Assist the Town of Reading in completing the first CCP milestone: a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory and forecast. The intern will work with multiple agencies to collect information and use GHG software to compile the emissions data. Document the data gathering effort with information for continued tracking of the data. • Involve key staff and elected officials in the Town of Reading in the CCP project and communicate the Town of Reading's climate protection efforts to key staff, officials and citizens. • Help the Town of Reading begin thinking about and designing its Local Action Plan. The Town of Reading seeks students with: • Experience with issues surrounding energy use, transportation, utilities, and/or solid waste; • Strong people skills for working with a variety of personalities both in town departments and town volunteers; • General understanding of the causes, science, and impacts of global warming/climate change; • Basic computer and data manipulation skills.
