Committee Notes for ay 24, 2006
Present were Stephanie Anderberg, Michele Benson, Ron Daddario, Gina Snyder, and Ray Porter.
The minutes for May 10 were accepted unanimously.
Ron provided a handout listing needs for Reading Town Day, June 17 from 10 AM to 2 PM. There
is a coordination meeting for all tables June 7'h at Old South Methodist church. Michele, Gina, Ron can
attend for sure. The space is 8X6: Ron or Michele will provide a table, Gina and Ron 2 chairs each,
Stephanie a tent cover. The tote bags will be handed out to those taking the pledge, they will contain various
literature, such as Ray_ has train schedules, RMLD is providi_ 'ng CFLs, pledge sheets, info sheets, etc. We
will fill totes at next meeting, just prior to Town Day (the fee for Totes due to s, came out to $172
more than we had, so we agreed to each give Stephanie the $30 if we can.) Michele will be borrowing the
RMLD bike with the lights for us to attract attention and give kids eehing to do if they visit our table.
Ron will check with the town about whether we can ask Home Depot to be at our table to have a display on
energy conservation home improvement materials available.
The next RMLD board meeting is June 21 (7:30 PM) and there will be a presentation on green
power. We also need to see if the board members will sign on to the pledge. We WI-so need to get the town
going on using the matching funds that are an annual opportunity through RMLD. The first opportunity
might be from the Library - to change over the lighting since they already indicated that they want to do
this. The problem is the matching funds aspect. We might have to go to Town Meeting and have the $
am mn nn h , wa runt.
Ray handed out an updated time line (see). The key dates come off the intern starting date which is
set at June 12, but not confirmed as the first thing is to get training on the software. Michele will check on
Tim's availability to train the intern on the software and we'll get a starting date for Emily based on his
availability. The idea is to have a gap analysis in early July; Baseline and future forecast in August; final
inventory complete by September.
There are opportunities to partner with schools and the RMLD. Education programs and posters
could be developed. The school safety T-shirt design contest could become an energy savings contest. An
ever co vation to e could be provided to each town, or the HS and Comcast could develop a tape for
each town. These are opportunities to consider.
We could work with the energy star program to evaluate a town building. Since the schools
indicated an interest, perhaps one of the schools benchmarked with energy star's K-12 program. The RMLD
might be able to help with energy audits. Michele will check with the smaller accounts contact person at
RMLD (Joe Beliki (sp?)) on the contact person for school facilities.
Ron has been trading emails with Walkable Communities. They wanted to advertise the walk and
they need a suggested route. The walk has been postponed to later in June. The group works toward more
walkable communities, looking at opportunities to improve walkability, such as sidewalks and safety,
benches and trees.
