HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-08-09 Cities for Climate Protection MinutesAugust 9, 2006 Reading Advisory Committee on Cities for Climate Protection Program Committee Notes for Aug. 9, 2006 Present were Michele Benson, Ron Daddario, Gina Snyder, Tracy Sopchak, Dan Blodgett The minutes for July 26 were accepted unanimously. Discussed business/commerce 123 pledge. Suggestions to put * for where offer web information: ENERGY STAR (all caps), LEED, anti-idle website for MA, composting, biodiesel and catalytic oxidizers as well as info on HVAC (Michele was going to forward her suggestions to all. Also she had found a community waste - keep America beautiful site). Biggest change to energy: scrap (a) and combining (b) and (c) along with electronic devices and other appliances. Other changes include reducing percent vegetated to 30% on that choice and including use of renewable/recyclable materials as well as recycling debris on construction. Reviewed pledge to change category names to primary and secondary, leave most and ask for feedback when Ray speaks to the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary. Michele will check on whether meetings are open to community if rest of committee wants to go. If so, need to RSVP. Maybe have board review prior to full Chamber of Commerce (October at Hillview) or Rotary (September luncheon, Michele will check date and location). Michele checked in with Emily, she will have Emily show her how to input data when Emily is back here briefly before moving to CA to go to grad school. RMLD provided a list of vehicles and Michele is putting them into Large/Medium/Small categories and putting fuel use data into the CCP software. It's all in a spreadsheet, but not in any order at present. Still waiting for DPW data and hoping it i more easily summarized. Ron and Tracy will be available to help. 12:3 Af Tracy spoke with Library (Kathy) and they suggest a small display on counter near check out as well as a poster in the glass cabinet in entry. Kathy gave honest opinion that the material will no longer be active after about a month. So, committee decided it is a matter of continuing to get new information to display (e.g. seasonal displays for Halloween (along with the kids page discussed in July 26 meeting) and Christmas, e.g. LED Christmas lights). Dan will check on where info can be put at REI. Town Hall and Atlantic are the other two locations. Michele sent the powerpoint slides to RCTV but hasn't seen them broadcast yet. She also checked their web page and they aren't up on it. Ron reviewed that we've submitted our part for the grant, and that we should identify projects over the course of the year so that we have them all lined up for the next round of grants, or. to write up other grants to implement them. Michele offered to take notes next meeting while Gina is on vacation. Ron, Tracy and Gina are going to the ICLEI meeting in Belmont on Friday (8:45) - Ron sent the "snap shot" of our activities that Tracy put together and which Steve Goldy is planning to use when he attends the Rep. Tierney meeting in Salem on Aug. 160'
