Committee Meeting 7:00 PM, present were Ray Porter, Michele Benson, Gina Snyder, Dan Blodgett, Ron
D'Addario, Joan Boegel, Tracy Sopchak, and Stephanie Anderberg. Guest Wendy Dennis, from Wakefield,
joined our meeting to learn about setting up CCP in Wakefield.
guest.
Welcome - Chair Gina Snyder opened the meeting, welcomed all present and made introductions for our
Minutes -.A motion was made and seconded to approve the meeting minutes from the May 9 meeting.
The motion passed unanimously.
Parker a grade project - the students developed two surveys to help us gather data for our grant
application. One survey is for middle school families to complete, and the other is for train riders, asking how
and from where they get to the station. The students can cover the first few morning trains, but will need to leave
before school starts. Adults will be needed to help the kids and then to continue surveying the remaining rush
hour trains after they leave. Various committee members expressed interest and ability to help during different
times and weekdays.
There were some questions about the survey questions and distribution. It may be a good idea to distribute a
survey to seniors, either through the senior center or through personal contacts. We could alter the survey so that
we can expand our database, and could also use Green Sense to promote the survey.
The committee thought it would be better to collect completed surveys on the platform, than to let riders take the
surveys and mail them later.
There was some additional discussion on what sort of demographics we want to collect, or if we can build the
cause with data from the key patron groups of students, train riders, and seniors.
Family Day - Most members are available to help, except Ray, Stephanie, and Dan. Dan will be at th
REI table. Stephanie's tent will be available but Dan or Joan may have better tents available.
The committee is considering having an anti-idling pledge or a transportation 1-2-3, with anti-idling as a stand-
alone commitment within the 1-2-3. We also discussed whether we can get a giveaway item, for people who
complete the pledge, and we will look into some simple keychains.
We could also bring the transit survey to Family Day.
We could have charts of our progress so far, and handouts on anti-idling and other key issues. Gina will look into
getting anti-idling stickers for car dashboards. The committee discussed how to present the equivalent driving
distance that is wasted for idling. We are estimating that based on 1 hour of idling being equal to 1 gallon of gas,
and an average of 20 mpg, then you lose one mile for every 3 minutes of idling.
Ron will ask Arnold if he would donate bags again
Action Plan There may be some confusion over who is working on each item.
