Meeting opening -Chair Michele Benson opened the meeting. Minutes - A motion was made to accept the Sept. 24th meeting minutes which were accepted unanimously. Thanks to Ron & Maureen for hosting the potluck. Action Plan items updates - Update on RCAP Town Bylaw & Master Plan Review - There are a few sections of the general bylaws which might relate to green renovations, LID or recycling. School-Wide No-Idling Program - Still need to contact Wood End & Parker. Community No-Idling - we have heard that there might be no-idling signs at the train station. School & Youth Group Outreach - a "Conservation Resources wiki" was started by teachers at each school, covering not just energy but recycling and other sources of GHG as well. Michele is on the wiki. Rec, cling - Dave brought more info on recycling of CRTs. It's hard to know where collected electronics items go, as many are sent to foreign countries and dumped. Volunteer Fair 10/18 - the committee concluded that we are not ready to participate this year. When we are ready, we can contact Reading Cares at any time. K-12 Resource Committee - this item was covered under Action Plan items updates. There was a discussion on the use of ESCOs for school/municipal building efficiencies. The positive is that we would get the efficiency improvements sooner, but the negative is that you end up paying back longer than it takes to realize your costs in efficiency savings. Home Depot Fair - The event went well and we managed to connect with a few shoppers. Kids were drawn by our handouts. Possibly in the future we can work with Home Depot's kids' projects to include "green" projects. Dave also suggested a contact person. Sharon Kishida, for kids' recycling projects. Meeting with Peter - Meeting on Oct 10 to go over current action items and shuttle branding. We also want to bring up Climate Conservation and World Cafe. Other - Stephanie brought up the new Bicycle Commuter Benefits provision of the IRS tax code section 132 (f) - pretax deduction for commuter expenses. Tracy will send a new table of action plan items for committee members to review & send updates. We will meet on the 24`'' to go over it.
