Board of Cemetery Trustees Meeting
Tuesday - May 4, 1993
Pursuant to a meeting legally posted, the meeting of May 4, 1993
convened at 8:00 P.M. in the Arnold Berger Room, Town Hall Annex.
Present: Joyce K. Miller, Chairman
Daniel F. Driscoll, Secretary
Carl H. Amon, Jr.
Edward F. Fuller
John Silvaggi
James J. Sullivan, Jr.
Director Robert Keating of the Cemetery Division was also
present.
1. Secretary's Report
Mr. Amon moved, Mr. Silvaggi seconded and it was unanimously
voted to accept the Secretary's minutes of the April 6, 1993
Trustees Meeting.
2. Batchelder Field Town Meeting Report
After a presentation by Trustee Mr. Silvaggi and Mrs. Stanieich,
Chairman of the Cemetery Siting Committee, the members of the
Town Meeting voted to transfer Batchelder Field to the Conserva-
tion Department and approximately ten acres to the Cemetery
Trustees for a new cemetery.
Mr. Amon moved, Mrs. Miller seconded and it was unanimously voted
to have the Secretary forward a letter to Mrs. Stanieich express-
ing the Trustees appreciation for her excellent presentation of
the Siting Committee's report at the Town Meeting.
3. Cemetery Preparation for Memorial Day
Director Keating reported that the cemeteries are all cleaned,
the roads have been swept and all sand removed by the DPW. New
foundations have been set and mowing will commence this week.
4. Aerial Photography of Cemeteries
Director Keating advised that the photos were taken today includ-
ing the new cemetery site on Franklin St. Thirty by forty inch
blow-ups will be made up.
5. Custodian of Graves Update
Newly appointed Frank Driscoll has met with the Director and is
prepared to carry out his responsibilities regarding veteran
markers, etc. for Memorial Day. Flowers for each veteran's grave
are included in this years budget and have been ordered. Direc-
tor Keating advised that the Town Meeting voted down an ap-
propriation for flowers for FY 94.
6. Laurel Hill Highland Street Lots
Director Keating reported that on the right hand side of the road
to the Highland Street opening, there are approximately thirty
graves sites inside the wall.
Mr. Amon moved, Mr. Sullivan seconded and it was unanimously
voted to proceed with the development of these new grave sites.
7. New Business
Director Keating advised that the FY 94 Budget has been revised
to include $35,000 in Capital Outlay for a backhoe.
8. Receipts
Director Keating furnished the Trustees with copies of the
receipts from the Sale of Lots and Miscellaneous charges for the
last six months.
9. Next Meeting
The next scheduled meeting will be June 1, 1993. Meeting ad-
journed at 8:40 P.M.
