Board of Cemetery Trustees
Tuesday, June 7, 1994
Pursuant to a meeting legally posted, the meeting of June 7, 1994
convened at 7:30 P.M. in the Berger Conference Room, Reading Town
Hall.
Present: John Silvaggi, Chairman
Joyce K. Miller, Vice-Chairman
Daniel F. Driscoll, Secretary
Edward F. Fuller
James J. Sullivan
Director Robert Keating of the Cemetery Division was also
present.
1. Secretary's Report
On a motion by Mr. Fuller, seconded by Mr. Sullivan, it was unan-
imously voted to accept the Secretary's minutes of the May 4,
1994 Trustees meeting.
2. Memorial Day Review
Director Keating reported that all repairs were made, markers set
and flowers placed on all veterans graves. Custodian of Veterans
Graves, Frank Driscoll did his usual good job. Additional flag
holders will be needed as the number of veterans graves are in-
creasing. Mr. Driscoll will see the Town Manager with this re-
quest.
3. 350th. Anniversarv
Cemetery personnel worked on Saturday during the parade - direct-
ing the public using the facilities at Laurel Hill to view the
parade, and policing the grounds.
4. Capitol Protects
Director Keating advised that his Capitol Project request for
FY95 was $10,000 for continued road repairs at Laurel Hill and
$10,000 for road work and extension of the wall at Charles Lawn,
plus $30,000 for Franklin St. Town Meeting approved $40,000 -
$30,000 for Cemetery development and $10,000 for Laurel Hill road
work.
Regarding the Franklin St. Cemetery the survey team is still in
the initial engineering phase.. Further development plans will be
started after the survey is completed.
5. Receipts
Director Keating furnished the Trustees with copies of the
receipts from the Sale of Lots and Miscellaneous charges for July
1993 through May 27, 1994.
6. New Business
The Trustees, through Director Keating, requested that his per-
sonnel be advised that their work in preparing the Cemeteries for
Memorial Day drew many favorable comments and is duly recognized.
Mr. Sullivan requested that Director Keating furnish the Trustees
with proposed development steps for the Franklin Street Cemetery.
This would include projects that could be conducted in house and
those requiring bids for necessary outside work. Director Keat-
ing advised that he has prepared a development draft and will
have copies at the next meeting.
Chairman Silvaggi, on behalf of the Trustees extended our ap-
preciation to Ed Fuller for his ten years of dedicated service to
the Board of Cemetery Trustees and wished him well in the future.
7. Next Meeting
The next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday July 12, 1994.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
