Board of Cemetery Trustees
Wednesday, September 14, 1994
Pursuant to a meeting legally posted, the meeting of September
14, 1994 convened at 7:30 P.M. in the Berger Conference Room,
Reading Town Hall.
Present: Joyce Miller, Vice Chairman
Daniel F. Driscoll, Secretary
James J. Sullivan
Mary Vincent
Robert Keating, Supervisor of the Reading Cemeteries was also
present.
1. Secretary's Report
On a motion by Mr. Sullivan, seconded by Ms. Vincent, it was
unanimously voted to accept the Secretary's minutes of the July
12, 1994 Trustees meeting.
2. FY94 and FY95 Buydgets
Mr. Keating furnished the Trustees with copies of the FY94 and
FY95 Budgets which were discussed in detail.
3. Summer Projects and Equipment Purchases
Mr. Keating reported on the road paving at Laurel Hill and the
finished grading and seeding at Charles Lawn. New purchases in-
cluded a lawn mower and a furnace for the garage at Laurel Hill.
4. Franklin Street Cemetery Capitol Planning Handouts and First
Phase Specifications
Mr. Keating furnished the Trustees with a copy of his letter
being sent out soliciting bids for the first phase of development
of the Franklin Street Cemetery. This includes survey, prelimi-
nary design, permitting and final design. The cost of the
development as outlined in the Ten Year Capitol Improvement
Program would extend for six years (FY95 through FY00) at an es-
timated cost of $265,000.
Mr. Sullivan discussed the merits of funding the development with
a bond issue, not only would the cost be reduced if completeded
in one or two years but the Sale of Lots would be an immediate
source of revenue for the Cemetery Division. The Board requested
that Supervisor Keating resubmit a request for a $300,000 in the
Capitol Budget.
5. Rule book changes for Fall Town Warrant
The eight clarifications previously recommended by the Trustees
will be presented to the Town Meeting. They will then be in-
cluded in the next printing of the Regulations of Cemeteries
booklet.
6. Receipts
Mr. Keating furnished the Trustees with copies of the receipts
from Sale of Lots and Miscellaneous charges for July through
August 31, 1994.
7. New Business
Ms. Miller requested that the Trustees give some consideration
and suggestions for naming the Franklin Street Cemetery.
8. Next Meeting
The next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, October 4, 1994.
