HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-10-04 Board of Cemetery Trustees MinutesTown of Reading Board of Cemetery Trustees Tuesday, October 4, 1994 Pursuant to a meeting legally posted, the meeting of October 4, 1994 convened at 7:30 P.M. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Read- ing Town Hall. Present: John Silvaggi, Chairman Joyce Miller, Vice Chairman Daniel F. Driscoll, Secretary Mary Vincent Robert Keating, Supervisor of the Reading Cemeteries and Edward Fuller, former Trustee, were also present. 1. Damaged Marker - Charles Lawn A Mr. & Mrs. Silva appeared before the Trustees concerning a family marker (Ceruolo) which has a small chip in the lower left corner. Supervisor Keating inspected this marker in the presence of Mr. Silva and explained that it could not have been caused by a mowing machine. On a later inspection Mr. Keating observed a new chip on the face of the marker. He feels strongly that the damage was not caused by Cemetery personnel. Chairman Silvaggi advised the Silva's that the requlations state that the Cemetery is not responsible for any damage to markers or ornaments. The Silva's requested full or partial reimbursement for a new marker. Mr. Silvaggi advised the Silva's that the matter would be taken under advisement. After a further discussion on a motion by Mr. Silvaggi, seconded by Ms. Vincent, it was unanimoulsy voted to have Supervisor Keat- ing inform the Silva's that the Board would waive the installa- tion fee if they decide to purchase a new marker. 2. Secretary's Report On a motion by Ms. Vincent, seconded by Ms. Miller, it was unani- mously voted to accept the Secretary's minutes of the September 14, 1994 Trustees meeting. 3. Budget - FY96 Supervisor Keating discussed the FY 96 Budget of $213,172 which included Bequest Fund of $82,000, Fees - $112,972, Sale of Lots - $15,000, General Fund - $3200. On a motion by Ms. Miller, seconded by Mr. Driscoll, it was unanimously voted to approve the Budget as submitted by Mr. Keating. 4. Receipts Mr. Keating Furnished the Trustees with copies of the receipts from Sale of Lots and Miscellaneous charges for July, 1994 through September 30, 1994. 5. Carl H. Amon Memorial After discussion by the Trustees, on a motion by Mr. Driscoll, seconded by Mr. Silvaggi, it was unanimously voted to have the road by Mr. Amon's grave named Carl H. Amon Way. It was further voted to have Supervisor Keating check out the cost of a suitable sign post and report back at the next meeting. 6. New Cemetery Name On a motion by Mr. Driscoll, seconded by Ms. Vincent it was unan- imously voted to invite any interested paries to submit names for the Franklin Street Cemetery at the November Trustees Meet- ing. Supervisor Keating was directed to have a notice of the meeting published in the local newspaper. 7. Next Meeting The next scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, November 9, 1994.
