HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-11-21 Board of Cemetery Trustees MinutesTown of Reading Board of Cemetery Trustees Tuesday, November 21, 1995 Pursuant to a meeting legally posted the meeting of November 21, 1995 convened at 9:30 P.M. in the Berger Room, Reading Town Hall Annex, Reading, MA Present: John Silvaggi, Chairman Joyce Miller, Vice Chairman Mary Vincent, Secretary Daniel F. Driscoll Randolph Harrison Robert Keating, Superintendent of Cemeteries was also in attendance. Secretary Minutes On a motion by Daniel Driscoll, seconded by Randolph Harrison, it was unanimously voted to accept the Secretary's minutes of the October 24, 1995 Meeting. Old Business Wood End The Town Meeting Article authorizing bonding to fund Wood End development was unanimously passed by that body. Motion was made and passed to fund the interest on the bonding out of our funds at this time. Joyce Miller reported that the Capital Advisory Committee had toured the site and was impressed with what has been accomplished. Superintendent Keating said that all of the leaves from the Town Compost area had been used at the site. The stone wall on the Partridge Rd. site of the cemetery is progressing. Charles Lawn Superintendent Keating reported that the lawn has come back nicely after a very dry summer. Dogwood trees have been planted. Forest Glen 2 Grave lots have been bought back to be re-sold. Receipts 133 interments so far this year. New Business - Budget The new budget was presented to the Board. Superintendent Keating expects a 2.5% in personnel expense. Supplies and expenses were discussed. Superintendent Keating noted that he questions if gasoline/diesel is adequately funded. Electricity costs are up as we now have a commercial not a residential meter. Veteran's flowers are back in the budget under Supplies (Form D). The motion was made and passed to accept the Summary and Financing Plan Budget (10/26/95) (Form A) with the stipulation that if the Bequest Income of $88,389 is changed or altered in any way the vote ins Null and Void. Flowers P.C.) Joyce Miller explained that this fund was set up with donations from people who wanted flowers placed on graves for special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas etc.) This money is in the Bequest Fund. Interest on money donated is used to honor these requests. Superintendent Keating said there are about sixty arrangements placed throughout the year. Board Members New members are needed for the Board in upcoming months. Next Meeting The next scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, January 10, 1996 at 7:30 P.M. Meeting adjourned at 9:10 P.M.
