Board of Cemetery Trustees
Tuesday, March 4, 1997
Pursuant to a meeting notice legally posted, the meeting of March 4, 1997 convened at 7:30 P.M.
in the Berger Room, Reading Town Hall Annex, Reading, MA.
Present: Daniel F. Driscoll, Chairman
John Silvaggi, Vice-Chairman
Mary Vincent, Secretary
William Brown
Roc O'Connell
Randolph Harrison
Robert Keating, Superintendent of Cemeteries was also in attendance.
Review of Past Meeting Minutes
On a motion by Randolph Harrison, seconded by Roc O'Connell, the minutes of the January 1997
meeting were accepted unanimously. (There was no meeting on February 11, 1997 as the
Committee did not have a quorum.)
Pricing; Review for FY98
Prices were last raised in 1993. The Trustees felt a price adjustment was needed at this time for
FY98. The rates must be able to cover actual costs associated with a burial. Employee benefits
and capital equipment costs are subsidized by the tax rate of the Town. The Trustees stated that
the Cemetery is open for residents of Reading and former residents of Reading to purchase lots.
(Someone with no connection to the Town is not able to purchase space.) After much discussion,
the Trustees decided that former residents will have to pay a higher price for lots than residents
do. (Price schedule is attached.) The Board voted unanimously to accept the new prices for
FY98.
New Business
Superintendent Keating, at the suggestion of William Brown, has contacted the National Guard at
Camp Curtis Guild. They may be able to help with moving fill from Strout Avenue to Woodend.
Superintendent Keating is also working on the drainage problem at Woodend.
The D.P.W. has helped with repairs to a backhoe problem. They will absorb the $1,100.00 cost
in their budget.
Chairman Driscoll asked committee members to contact him or Superintendent Keating if they are
unable to attend a scheduled meeting.
The Meeting adjourned at 9:20 P.M. The next meeting will be Wednesday, April 2, 1997 at 7:30
P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
