Board of Cemetery Trustees
Tuesday, June 3, 1997
Pursuant to a meeting notice legally posted, the meeting of June 3, 1997 convened at 7:30 P.M. in
the Berger Room, Reading Town Hall Annear, Reading, MA.
Present: Daniel F. Driscoll, Chairman
John Silvaggi, Vice-Chairman
Mary Vincent, Secretary
William Brown
Randolph Harrison
Roc O'Connell
Robert Keating, Superintendent of Cemeteries was also in attendance.
Review of Past Meeting Minutes
On a motion by William Brown, seconded by Randolph Harrison, the minutes of the May 6, 1997
meeting were accepted unanimously.
Memorial Day Review
On May 20, 1997 the Trustees had taken a tour of the Cemetery. Chairman Daniel Driscoll asked
that the fine work of Robert Keating and his department be noted in these minutes. There was a
good turn out of Reading citizens at the services on Memorial Day.
Woodend Update
This Sunday, June 8, the National Guard will be at the Woodend site to start bringing fill from
Strout Avenue to Woodend. Letters have been sent to the neighbors advising them of the early
time they will be starting work. Fuel and food is to be provided by the Cemetery Department.
No date has been set for the Guards work in July.
Superintendent Keating was very pleased with the drainage on the last rain storm. There was no
outflow to the wet lands.
Woodend Dedication
Superintendent Keating informed the Trustees that the lot plan is in, the lot numbers are in and lot
layout will start this summer. The Trustees tentatively picked Sunday, September 7, 1997, with
Sunday, September 14, 1997 as the second date. Randolph Harrison will contact Dave Bunton
regarding R.M.H.S. band participation. Superintendent Keating will contact the Reading Clergy
Association. Superintendent Keating had provided the Trustees with a copy of the dedication
ceremonies of Charles Lawn on June 20, 1982.
New Business
Superintendent Keating reported there is an on-going problem with flags and holders being stolen.
Also the rules and regulation signs posted at each cemetery need to be redone and updated.
Receipts
Receipts were reviewed by the Trustees.
Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M. The next meeting of the Trustees will be Tuesday, July 1,
1997 at 7:30 P.M.
