Tuesday, December 2, 1997 -
Pursuant to a meeting legally posted, the meeting of December 2, 1997 convened at 6:00
P.M. in the Berger Room, Reading Town Hall Annex, Reading, MA 01867
Present: Daniel F. Driscoll, Chairman

Roc O'Connell
Robert Keating, Superintendent of Cemeteries was also in attendance.
Review of Past Meeting Minutes
The minutes were accepted on a motion by John Silvaggi, seconded by Randolph
Harrison.
Corrine Peterson's Request
The Board reviewed Mrs. Peterson's request for a single grave site with monument
privilege at Wood End. Superintendent Keating reviewed for the Board why restrictions
on monuments on single grave lots had been in our rules and regulations since 1847 when
Laurel Hill was the only cemetery in Reading. After much discussion on the open
topography of Wood End and how the close proximity of single graves with monuments
would look, the Board decided to maintain the current rules and regulations which do not
allow this. The vote was 6 to 0 to deny Mrs. Peterson's request for a monument.
Superintendent Keating will send her a letter informing her of the Board's decision.
Woodend Update
The fill has all been brought to Wood End using in-house help. There have been 3
burials at the Cemetery and pre-need lots are selling. Superintendent Keating said that
Charles Lawn sales are up too.
New Business %
New signs are being made for all the Cemeteries with the rules and regulations for
flowers and no in-ground planting of plants.
Receipts
We are about 30 interments behind this same period last year. Receipts were reviewed by
the Trustees.
Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 7:30 P.M. The next meeting of the Trustees will be Tuesday,
January 6, 1997 at 6:00 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
