Board of Cemetery Trustees
Tuesday, April 7, 1998
Pursuant to a meeting legally posted, the meeting of April 7, 1998 convened at 6:00 P.M.
in the Berger Room, Reading Town Hall Annex, Reading, MA 01867
Present: John Silvaggi, Vice-Chairman
Mary Vincent, Secretary
William Brown
Roc O'Connell
Randolph Harrison
Robert Keating, Superintendent of Cemeteries was also in attendance.
In the absence of Daniel Driscoll, the meeting was chaired by John Silvaggi, Vice-
Chairman.
Review of Past Meeting Minutes
The minutes were accepted as amended on a motion by William Brown, seconded by
Randolph Harrison.
Review of Parks/Forestrv and Cemeterv Division Consolidation
Dan Driscoll and John Silvaggi met with Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner to make
sure that consolidation will not affect Superintendent Keating adversely. (See minutes
from March 4, 1998 meeting.) There will be a six month trial period during which no job
positions will be eliminated. Superintendent Keating has formally applied for this
position as of this week (April 6, 1998).
Trustees Up for Term Renewal
Daniel Driscoll and Randolph Harrison's terms are up for re-nomination this year.
Randolph Harrison is interested in serving another term.
Wood End Update
The engineering phase of Wood End has been completed. Superintendent Keating has a
meeting with the Conservation Commission on April 15, 1998 relative to the completion
of the rear portion of the Cemetery. Cherry trees have been planted. There has not been
a reoccurrence of the deer problem as of this date.
Receipts
Charles Lawn receipts are up. Wood End is showing steady sales.
New-Business
The new signs are up in all the cemeteries. Forest Glen, Charles Lawn, and Wood End
have all been raked. Laurel Hill will be done.
Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the
Trustees will be Tuesday, May 5, 1998 at 6:00 P.M.
