HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-06-01 Board of Cemetery Trustees MinutesTown of Reading Board of Cemetery Trustees Tuesday, June 1, 1999 j. 12 Pursuant to a meeting legally posted, the meeting of June 1, 1999 convened at 6:15 P.M. in the Berger Room, Reading Town Hall Annex, Reading, MA 01867 Present: Daniel Driscoll, Chairman John Silvaggi, Vice-Chairman Mary Vincent, Secretary William Brown Roc O'Connell Robert Keating, Superintendent of Cemeteries was also in attendance. Review of Past Meeting Minutes On a motion by William Brown, seconded by John Silvaggi, the minutes were accepted as amended. Memorial Day Review Robert Keating reported that the Memorial Day ceremonies had a large turn out from citizens of the Town. The speaker system worked very well. The Cemetery Department had purchased a power converter which was used with the public address system. The Board commented on how all the hard work of the Cemetery Department made the grounds of all four cemeteries very beautiful. Old Business Cemetery receipts were reviewed. New Business The Trustees accepted with regret the end of John Silvaggi's term on the Trustees. He has been a dedicated member of the Board for over eighteen years, serving in various capacities. He will be missed. We were pleased to welcome new member Steve Meehan to the Board. The Trustees elected William Brown as Secretary and Mary Vincent as Vice-Chairman. Daniel Driscoll will continue as Chairman. The center island wall at Wood End is being worked on this summer. Replacing road ways at Laurel Hill is also being done. (this was in the Capital Improvement Plan of the Town.) The Cemetery Trustees also acknowledged with thanks all the work of Frank Driscoll, Custodian of Soldiers and Sailors Graves, for making sure over 1500 flags were on Veterans graves for Memorial Day. Adjourn The meeting adjourned at 7:00 P.M. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Trustees will be Tuesday, July 6, 1999 at 6:00 P.M. Respectfully submitted, V Mary R. Vi ce t Secretary
