Ad Hoc Birch Meadow Planning Committee
March 12, 2008 - Senior Center Great Room
Meeting Minutes
Attendance: Roger Frechette, Mary Ann Kozlowski, Gary Gresh, Jamie Maughan, James
Bonazoli, Shannon Fratto, Bob Hunt
Guest: John Halsey
Gary Gresh called the meeting to order at 7:15PM.
J. Feudo introduced J. Halsey from Reading Babe Ruth. Coach Moscariello was not able to
attend but did communicate the importance of the batting cage and the reasons it was placed in its
current location. Mr. Halsey said that the batting cage was placed in its current location to keep it
away from neighborhood houses.
Mr. Halsey expressed interest in the following areas:
• Installation of dugouts
• Scoreboard in Centerfield
• Double-Wide Batting Cage
• Storage Area behind the backstop
• Right Field Bleachers and protection
• Electricity on the backstop
The committee also felt strongly that a scoreboard would be an asset to the field. Often when
watching games it is difficult for the audience to know the score of the game.
It was also determined that there is not enough spectator seating at Morton Field. The committee
would recommend to enhance or add to the current bleachers including protect for spectators.
The committee discussed the idea of safety netting for spectators as well.
It is recommended the due to the high volume of use that the batting cage is extended as a double
batting cage. This will enable more people to use it while not having to build another batting
cage down the road.
G. Gresh asked J. Feudo to check with GIS or engineering to see if the 2 sport courts
were reconfigured if they could fit a 3rd.
The meeting-sed at 8:50 PM.
