Meeting Minutes
1. Review of last meeting
The Board reviewed the topics discussed at the last meeting (pool scheduling, lap
swim, swim team and awareness of the Boards existence to members and
community).
The issue of the morning Swim Team practices and the early lap swimmers seems to
be working fine. There have been no complaints since we made the few changes that
the Aquatic Advisory Board suggested. We will also be hanging a flyer on the
community board at the YMCA and submitting press releases that explain what the
Boards responsibilities are.
II. New Business
1. North Reading High School Swim Team pool usage request
The Board reviewed a letter received from the High School that
requested the use of our lap pool on 6 dates. Three of the dates can are
acceptable because the Reading High Boys Team will be at away meets.
The other three dates are being looked at by Gary Coutu to see if we can
accommodate them at Reading or Wakefield. He will call the coach and
follow-up with a letter to confirm on the dates in question. It will be
stated in the letter that this is a temporary usage circumstance and that
there is not an opportunity for this to become permanent in the future.
2. Age appropriateness for kids in the pools without parent
The board listened to the requests made by Paul Gorman, Gary Coutu
and the Aquatic Staff about children of young age using the pools without
a parent in the Pool or in the facility at times. The board agreed that
there should be guidelines as far as abilities of the swimmers and whether
or not the parent has to remain in the pool area. They also felt that we
should look at the situation of parents dropping off young children and
leaving them to swim while they tend to personal business.
` Gary Coutu will do research from the other local YMCA's to find out
what their policies are in regards to these situations. Gary will bring the
results to the next meeting so that the Aquatics Advisory Board can make
a suggestion to the Board of Directors on a new policy for these issues.
3. Swim Meet Conflicts
Gary asked the Board their opinion on the conflict of swim meet dates
between the Burbank YMCA team and the Reading High School Boys
team. The Burbank YMCA team had their dates in print over 6 weeks
ago and we just received the schedule for the High School. Due to the size
difference of the two teams and the difference off time that the dates were
submitted, it was decided that the High School meets would start at
8:00pm following the end of the Burbank YMCA team meets. Gary will
call the Athletic Director and make him aware of this decision.
4. Cleanliness
Gary explained the steps that have been taken in response to comments
about the cleanliness of the deck and pools. The staff has been working
on a cleaning schedule that will rectify these concerns.
THE NEXT MEETING OF THE AQUTIC ADVISORY BOARD WILL
BE ON TUESDAY DECEMBER 7TH AT 6:30PM.
IF YOU HAVE ANY AGENDA ITEMS, SEND THEM TO GARY BY
MONDAY DECEMBER 6TH. PLEASE RESPOND TO GARY AT THE
YMCA ON WHETHER YOU WILL BE ATTENDING.
