Meeting Minutes
1. Review of last meeting
1. North Reading Swim Team Request
i. The team has been contacted and we have told them that the
three dates that they requested have been approved and that
the other three dates that conflict with the Reading High
practice would have to take place in Wakefield.
2. Swim Meet Conflicts
i. Gary has spoken to the Reading High coach and has worked
out the two dates that were in conflict. The Reading High team
has rescheduled their meets on the days in question. There
continues to be a very clear line of communication between the
coach and the YMCA.
3. Cleanliness
Gary explained the steps that have been taken in response to comments
about the cleanliness of the deck and pools. The staff has been working
on a cleaning schedule that will rectify these concerns. A few members
and board members have mentioned that have noticed the work taking
place.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Age Appropriateness Surveys
As requested in the last meeting, Gary had the Aquatic staff call other
YMCA's and ask several questions that related to the discussion of our
meeting that included:
What age are kids allowed to swim in the pool without a parent?
Do you have rules that a parent has to be in the pool area, or in the
pool if they require a floatation device or if they are under a certain
age?
Do you allow kids to be dropped off to swim and let the parents leave
the facility?
Do you have any type of swim test to check kids to be able to swim in
the deep end of the pool? What ages fall into this test?
Do you have any type of sign in system so that kids can swim in the
pool during a free swim while their parents work out in the facility?
After receiving the answers from the other YMCA's, Gary shared the
results of them with the board at the meeting. As a group we
reviewed the answers and came up with the following information to
bring to our Board of Directors to review:
During Rec Swims:
1. Any child 6 or under must have an adult.in the water with them at
all times.
2. Any child ages 7-12 that requires a floatation device must have an
adult in the water with them at all times.
3. There will be a swim test for children ages 7-12 yrs of age:
a. Swim 1 length of the pool (front crawl)
b. Demonstrate treading water for 1 minute
c. Demonstrate a back float
If a child ages 7-12 passes this test the following will happen:
1. Their name will be put in a logbook that will be kept on the pool
deck.
2. If they wish to come in during a REC Swim, their parent or adult
that is with them in the facility can sign them in to swim for a
maximum of 1 %Z hours. The sign in will include the child's name,
parents/adults name, where the parent/adult will be in the facility,
time signed in and time signed out.
***PARENTS/ADULTS WITH CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 13
WILL HAVE TO REMAIN IN THE FACILITY WHILE THE
CHILD/CHILDREN ARE SWIMMING***
THE NEXT MEETING OF THE AQUTIC ADVISORY BOARD WILL
BE ON TUESDAY JANUARY 11th AT 6:30PM.
IF YOU HAVE ANY AGENDA ITEMS, SEND THEM TO GARY BY
MONDAY JANUARY 10TH. PLEASE RESPOND TO GARY AT THE
YMCA ON WHETHER YOU WILL BE ATTENDING.
