-Agenda Item I was the Summer Pool Schedule
The pool schedule was reviewed and discussion developed about the scheduling of
various areas ranging from YMCA Camps, Reading Parks & Recreation Camp, Open
Recreation time for YMCA members and Non-members (including Reading Residents),
swim lessons, therapy, and various other programs.
A large portion of the discussion also focused on tracking Reading resident non-members
in the pool and coming up with some type of tagging system. The tagging system
discussed included colored wrist bands, marking a persons hand with marker, and a
numbered tagging system. It was decided that all suggestions would be considered and
discussed with the Aquatics Director to figure out the best system.
Concern was raised that if the pool was available for open rec. from 2:30-7:30pm that
parents may abuse the usage time by dropping a child off at 2:30pm and not picking them
up until 7:30pm, thus using the pool as a "Babysitting Service". It was decided that the
aquatics and front desk staff would have to closely monitor this potential problem and
also to develop some type of policy that will prevent people form using the pool in this
way.
-Agenda item II was reviewing the Reading H.S. Girls Swim Team Meet schedule for
the Fall 2000 Season. Lois presented the schedule and briefly discussed the home meets
and times. There was agreement among the group that the schedule and the start times
and dates for the meets were good.
-Agenda item III reviewed cleanliness of the pool bottom in the large pool and Dan said
that the problem was being resolved and that the proper equipment was being ordered.
A discussion also took place on the acoustics in the pool and how difficult it was to hear
someone with all the various programs going on at once. The issue was discussed that
some type of sound absorption tile hung around the pool might help with the echo. Tom
and Klaus talked about bringing the issue up at the YMCA Board Meeting. The issue
was tabled and further discussion was to take place at a later meeting.
Plans for installing a sound system for music was presented by Dan to help with the
popular Aquacize classes in the large pool. Dan has contacted Audio Visual Concepts
and is planning a meeting with them to get a price for the sound system installation. It
was discussed that the sound system also could serve as some type of intercom system for
the pool.
The next Aquatics Advisory Board Meeting has been
scheduled for June 13th at 6:30pm at the Burbank YMCA
With no further questions the meeting was adjourned at 8:25pm
Respectfully Submitted,
