Donna Griffith reported on the Fall II Program Session Pool schedule and said that we had more than 750 kids participating in the swim programs and that use has continued to be heavy on weekends during open times and on Friday nights. The Burbank YMCA Aquatics Department is running a lifeguarding course and currently has 8 people enrolled. The YMCA will be offering another course in January of 2001. Donna also reported that the Winter Session schedule would be similar to the Fall II schedule with only some minor changes. An announcement was made that both pools would be closed at the Burbank Branch from 12/24 -12/29 for some routine maintenance and cleaning in between sessions. These times were confirmed by Dan Berry and Pete Smargon on 11/29/00. The pool will reopen on Saturday 12/30. On Dec. 9th the pool will close to the members and general public for a Burbank YMCA Swim Team Meet. This time reflects a half hour change from the normal swim team meet starting time. Tina Truedson inquired about the Burbank YMCA Swim Team and some concerned parents who left the team because of concerns about the coach. Dan Berry, Donna Griffith and Pete Smargon responded to the AAB (Aquatics Advisory Board) by saying that they are aware of the issues surrounding the coach and the Swim Team and that Dan Berry has met extensively with the Swim Team Parents and Mike Morrell in order to address these concerns. Dan B. continued to respond by saying that the swim team has made many changes in reference to the parents concerns and that Dan would invite anyone in to go over the issues and how the Y responded to them. Dan B and Donna Griffith did not have all their notes on the swim team issues at the AAB Meeting which is why Dan invited anyone on the Board who was interested in hearing them to set up a time to meet with him and/or Donna. The Reading High School Boys Swim Team Started on 11/27 Ken Holbrook reported that they 13 swimmers. The Boys Swim Team has 4 Swim meets at the YMCA this season and that the last day they would be using the pool through the end of February for practices and meets. Dan Berry discussed developing the purpose of the Aquatics Advisory and putting it in written form based on the groups input. Tom O'Rourke pulled out the meeting minutes from an old AAB meeting that discussed the Purpose and motioned that we review the document and discuss it at the next AAB meeting. The group agreed and Pete Smargon made copies of the documents and handed them out to all the Board Members. Dan Berry talked about the pool acoustics and said that budgetarily we should be in position to install some type of sound absorption in 2001. Dan and Pete suggested that we would probably hire some kind of sound engineer to come in and provide us with information on where we should start. Dan announced that the.new pool vacuum has been purchased and is currently being used to clean both pools in the Burbank facility. The AAB decided that they would like to set-up a regular monthly meeting time. It was decided that the 4th Monday of each month would be a good time. The AAB would not meet in December because of the Christmas Holiday and that they would resume meeting in January 22"d. Tom O'Rourke brought up the importance of the meeting minutes and that it should rotate each month to another member of the Board. Tom volunteered to do the minutes for the January meeting. Tom further stated that the meeting minutes should go to Dan Berry and that he would distribute them to each Board member. Wayne Currier told the AAB that he would put the meeting announcement on the Meeting info. Board in the Town Hall and also would look into putting it in the Chronicle. It was decided by the AAB that a survey would be developed to find out how we are doing with issues surrounding the pool. Donna Griffith will develop a survey with her staff and bring it to the next AAB meeting in January. Dan Berry talked briefly about getting involved with RCTV (Reading Cable Television) for making community announcements and televising swim meets. Dan Berry made a motion to end the meeting and all members agreed. The next Aquatics Advisory Board will be January 22, 2001 at the Burbank YMCA.
